If only the owner had had the place properly cleaned before our arrival, the trip would have been wonderful.
After submitting photos of the uncleanliness to the owner, he tried to have the cleaning person come the next day (which she never did). Instead the cleaning person showed up later in the evening, an hour after we contacted the owner, asking to speak with who had complained about the job she did. Even though our baby was taking a nap and I was in the middle of cooking dinner, I walked her into the master bedroom and showed her the layers of dust still covering the bathroom vent and showed her pictures of the dust bunnies we had already swept up along the base boards. Plus I showed her the large pile of blankets, bedding, and curtains (that we had to take down) that were in queue for the washer and dryer. She quickly realized that maybe she hadn’t exactly gotten to every spot and said she’d return the next say (again she never did).
After her departure I called the owner upset that we had to deal with his cleaner coming unannounced and upset with us to boot. He said he had to let the precious cleaner go for similar reasons and that this person was new, apparently this was her fist time cleaning the unit (which she also confirmed).
Either-way, we have not heard from the owner since. I tried to propose a compromise regarding being compensated for the uncleanliness. I suggested he credit us back the last three nights as we would need to find new accommodations OR if he could discount us one nights’ fee we would continue to work through cleaning the rest of the bedding and blankets. Again, zero response after I made these suggestions. I did inform him the cleaner never came the next day, and again no response.
I initiated communication with VRBO but they said they only try to reason with the owner to do what’s right. No response apparently from the owner and from VRBO for that matter.
After not getting any reasonable solution, we left two nights early and went home. Even after cleaning everything, our child still was reactivity negatively to the dust and uncleanliness do the home. Forgot to mention that after washing the last blanket, we found a live 2.5inch millipede in the lint trap (which was insanely full after only washing one blanket), crazy to think that’s what we were using to cozy up with at night.
Just an overall disappointment and saddened by the lack of integrity from the owner himself and from VRBO in general.
