The hotel does not have staff, which means you have to auto-checkin (which is fine), and solve any issue remotely by phone. We got room 404, and I knew it was a bad sign as soon as I got the room number. Our room keys cannot open the door to the residence area. There is a door between lobby and residence area. The key...

"The Appenzell area is a gorgeous rural area with phenomenal scenery. The hotel and town are traditional Swiss architecture with a very welcoming atmosphere. The staff was friendly and the rooms comfortable. This was our favorite area in Switzerland 🇨🇭. "
