"This is a lovely old house nicely renovated and decorated in a light and simple modern way, and quite well maintained. There is lots of parking and the bus from Portree can drop you off at the bus shelter right in front. Although my single room was small, it was very clean and had some pretty decorations and a comfy bed. It was lovely to hear the birds singing outside the window with the view of tall rhododendron bushes. The tea tray and a small fridge were helpful to have. The heavy curtains were also great, since dawn comes very early in the morning in the summer in the Hebrides. I liked most other things about the place so much that I hate to complain, but I feel that prioritizing communication with guests (I had a couple of minor issues and found the owners very difficult to reach), and getting better organized with the breakfast items provided needs to happen. There was no yogurt at all in the self service fridge on the first morning when I went down. On the second day, there were no napkins or spoons, and the cart holding used dishes was so full it was hard to find room to add mine. Same with adding my rubbish to the trash can. There was barely enough space. The room is generally very clean and pretty with Victorian style wicker seats overlooking the garden, but on that morning there were a lot of crumbs on some of the tables."

"Comfy room on the water… a bit of travel time to get there and most other places - but worth it for quiet and comfort. GREAT view, kind staff, wonderful breakfast space and lounging space. We made several day trips from here and always appreciated the comfort and quiet when we returned. Photos are from the property and a nearby village we walked around and enjoyed fish and chips by the sea. We also made a caste trip and did more exploring from here - so the “local” atmosphere was appreciated when we ended our touristy visits."

"We spent two nights at Balmacara Hotel during a family road trip through the Scottish Highlands, and it became one of the most memorable stays of our entire journey. The hotel sits right on the water's edge, with Loch Alsh stretching out before you and the Isle of Skye visible across the water. There is a rare quality to this location: complete solitude and stillness, yet a sense of being fully held by the natural world. We sat by the loch after dinner both evenings watching the light change over Skye long past 10PM. Cinematic does not begin to cover it. The staff made this stay genuinely exceptional. The restaurant and bar team were warm, attentive, and consistently above and beyond in ways that felt completely natural rather than scripted. Room service was equally prompt and courteous. This is the kind of hospitality that comes from people who genuinely care, and it showed in every interaction. For families driving the Edinburgh to Skye route, Balmacara is the perfect two-night base. The Skye Bridge is ten minutes away and Eilean Donan Castle is five. Do not rush through. The area rewards stillness. Five stars. Without hesitation."

"The rooms were great! We were there for two nights and ate dinner at the restaurant both nights. The food was delicious. The breakfast was really good too. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. If we are ever back in this area we want to stay here again."
