About this property

Elk Mountain Lodge: An AVL Mountain Escape w/Hot Tub, Fireplace, Hi-Speed Wifi

  • Winding up to Elk Mountain Lodge is an experience in it of itself. Just a little over a mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway, the views getting to this beautiful log cabin are breathtaking. At 3,500 foot elevation, the cabin is nestled among very tall, beautiful hard woods and is a certified National Wildlife Habitat.

Upon entering, this real log home will captivate you with its soaring ceilings, stone gas fireplace, and the warmth of wood throughout. The open floor plan of the kitchen, dining area, and great room allows everyone to gather and spend time together. Three living levels also provides the opportunity to go off and find a quiet corner if need be, or grab someone for a round of billiards or Arcade-style PAC Man located in the lower level game room.

Expansive wooden decks run the entire length of the home, and take in the panoramic, long range mountain views that will enchant you during your entire stay. Elk Mountain Lodge affords you a chance to relax and recharge in the hot tub among the mountain laurels or spend the day out to enjoy all the surrounding areas have to offer.

Being minutes away from America's favorite scenic highway, the Blue Ridge Parkway, allows you to enjoy spectacular views from overlooks such as Glassmine Falls (Milepost 361.2) or experience local Appalachian craftsmanship at the Folk Art Center (Milepost 382). Biking, hiking, white water rafting, rock climbing, water falls, and zip lining are all available within close proximity to the cabin. If you are interested in experiencing first-rate restaurants, breweries, galleries, shops, spas, and entertainment, downtown Asheville is the place to go.

This private log cabin is 25 minutes from Downtown Asheville, 35 minutes from the Asheville Regional Airport, 30 minutes from the Biltmore Estate, 25 minutes to Craggy Gardens (Milepost 364.4), and 40 minutes away from Mount Mitchell (Milepost 355.4), highest point east of the Mississippi at 6,685 foot elevation.

Elk Mountain Lodge does have a paved but somewhat steep driveway, very common for mountainside homes. In the snowy winter months, four-wheel drive is recommended.

For larger families and groups, the neighboring property, Dancing Bear Den, is also available on vrbo.com listing 2400642.

Elk Mountain Lodge struck the ideal balance between "off-the-grid" serenity and modern comfort. Morning coffee on the deck with the panoramic views was definitely one of the highlights.

Everything was splendid in the cabin and host went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and safe with some of the unexpected snow we got over the weekend. Highly recommend!

Enjoyable stay

Very nice home, especially for families. Very clean and decently stocked. Roads here are tough and driveway very steep, but that's Asheville! We enjoyed the hot tub and the views!

Happy we went with this house!

We had a great stay at Carlos and Theresa’s cabin. The location was perfect, more than enough sleeping space — it was the perfect location for a girls getaway.

Our stay was amazing! The lodge was clean and easy to access. The lodge is surrounded by beautiful scenery and wildlife. It was nice how short of a drive it was to the city.

Perfect getaway

We rented the house for a 20 year reunion and it was perfect. It was peacefully tucked away but amenities in Asheville were easily accessible. Ample space for 10 adults and well appointed bedrooms & kitchen. We’d definitely stay there again!

Good reunion of friends

The place was clean and easy to operate. The view was spectacular. The many decks provided a lot of options for interacting with friends. Navigating the steep driveway, and switch-back roads was challenging, but overall that was the only slight negative.

Perfect location for a retreat

Nine women stayed in this beautiful property. We were floored by by the damage all around it but so grateful the house made it through. The driveway is a bit daunting but the views are totally worth it. We had a few minor issues during our stay but the property management company was super responsive and we had a marvelous stay!

Family Vacation

Lovely location in a beautifully nested home. Lots of room to spread out for our adult family. We had such a great time on the deck and in the spa. We liked that it was away from the busyness of town but we could be easily get to hikes, shopping and restaurants if we wanted. Can't imagine the view when the leaves change!

Pros: The view and location were excellent, and the home had plenty of bedrooms to accommodate our group comfortably. The bottle of wine upon arrival was a thoughtful touch.Cons: The HVAC system was not functioning, which made for an uncomfortable stay throughout. Guests sleeping upstairs were particularly affected, while the downstairs remained cold as well, leaving no comfortable middle ground. The fix provided by the property manager did not resolve the issue. Additionally, the home did not appear to have been thoroughly cleaned in some time, as there were spiders and dust in multiple areas. Some oversights were surprisingly easy to address. For example, none of the soap dispensers were stocked with shampoo, conditioner, or body wash, despite being provided fixtures.Overall: The view truly sold us on this property, and the wraparound decks were a highlight. Unfortunately, the non-functioning HVAC and the absence of basic promised amenities significantly detracted from our overall experience.

Best Cabin Retreat

13 of us stayed for my sisters bachelorette party and had the best time! The bedrooms are very spacious and we loved the outdoor decks! As other reviews mentioned the drive way is intimidating but was easy to get the hang of. We loved being in a more secluded area and able to get down to town within 20 minutes for dinner. Would absolutely recommend any large groups staying here.

A Stay over Thanksgiving weekend

My 3 siblings and I took my mother here for her 80th birthday over Thanksgiving weekend. She had a blast! We had all the amenities to have a thanksgiving meal and enjoy family. The Biltmore is a short drive away. The Blue Ridge parkway is pretty much out the front door. I'm definitely recommending this VRBO to my friends.

Mountain Lodge

Our family gathered here for a wedding. The lodge was very clean and spacious and everyone had their own room and bed. We were fogged in for 2 days so getting up and down the mountain on the twisty roads was a challenge. We even saw 5 bears crossing the road as we were leaving!

Enjoyed our stay

We were a group of 7, traveling from Maine to California, celebrating 50 years of friendship. We came to Asheville to try to support the community after the devastation of Helene. Our stay was wonderful. The house accommodated our needs. It had everything we needed. The views were wonderful. The owners and property manager were extremely responsive. Needed to navigate the turn-off to the property carefully, but we got used to it. All in all, highly recommended.

Amazing spot for large groups!

I planned a bachelorette to stay at this property. It was the perfect spot for a lot of girls! Tons of space to spread out and good bathroom space as well. The host and property manager were super responsive and even dropped by to fix a few small issues we had. The only downside to the property is the steep driveway/curvy roads to get there (but should be expected if staying in the mountains).

Incredible

The place was even better than expected. Very close to everything downtown, basically just down the mountain! We had a group of adults that all felt like we had a great amount of space and everyone had a place to sleep. Incredible views! So clean and well kept. 100% would love to return some day.
