It’s an ideal base for exploring Basilicata, with its nature, history, and traditions. Just a few kilometres away are Lagopesole Castle, an imposing fortress built by Frederick II, and the Vulture Mountains with the picturesque Monticchio Lakes, nestled in the crater of an ancient volcano. Don’t miss Venosa, the birthplace of the poet Horace, with its castle and Roman ruins; the Sanctuary of Monte Carmine, a scenic and spiritual destination; and Pietragalla, famous for its “Palmenti,” ancient rock-hewn cavities used for winemaking. For cycling enthusiasts, the area offers medium- and high-difficulty cycling routes towards the Lucanian Dolomites, Matera, and Craco. Just a few kilometres away is Rionero in Vulture, the annual host of the Granfondo del Vulture—an event highly prized by amateur cyclists—and Acerenza, a medieval Lucanian village with a Romanesque cathedral, a diocesan museum, and breathtaking views.
