"This was our 2nd stay at La Selva, the first being 20+ years ago. It is a biological research station that hosts tourists to help pay for the work, not a fancy hotel. Meals are cafeteria-style. But if you are up for that, it's a wonderful place to stay and see nature. Guides are great, fellow guests are there for the same reason, there are no crowds. Rooms are clean and comfortable. And your tourist $$ are helping to support science.
But if you are using Google Maps to get here, search for "OET," NOT La Selva Biological Station - that one takes you to a gate with a sign warning of a dangerous dog, several km away, though the residents were nice and helpful. "
"La Quinta is a very welcoming place. The staff is fantastic: very responsive and capable in every respect. I have to make special mention of Diego, who greeted me warmly when I arrived and helped me finalize arrangements to visit two local nature preserves. Diego is enthusiastic and exceptionally competent. I also want to tip my hat to Leonardo, the chef. He make a lamb dish one night that was out of this world. Finally, I recommend that visitors take advantage of the trails around the lodge in the early morning and at night. The ponds at the back of the property are teaming with frogs and toads. Bring a flashlight!!!"
"We had a warm welcome from the moment we arrived , with clear instructions prior to arrival as well. The breakfast as mentioned in previous reviews was the best that we have had in Costa Rica and likewise we were treated to a wonderful home cooked three course meal at a very reasonable price. We loved the peaceful surroundings with nature on the doorstep including trails into the forest. We loved our stay and just wish we had planned to stay longer."
"Great room with a lovely view from the balcony, quiet, comfortable bed, staff were lovely and very helpful. Pool area was nice and restaurant food was good. Lots of local wildlife can be seen on the site (howler monkeys, macaws, toucans)."
