We enjoyed our stay at Highcliff Hacienda very much. The layout of this property is perfect for entertaining a larger group - we celebrated the graduation of our son. The place feels very inviting, was very clean and has everything you need. We can see us returning to this place.
Rented for just under two weeks. The property provided a quiet place for me to work while family used the property as a base to explore colleges in western NC and explore activities in the area. The only downside was no AC (unit upstairs could not compete with the unusually high temps for the area). Would definitely recommend.
This property had anything you could need for a family vacation. The location was great with lots of options for outings. The kids loved the deer sightings. Otter Falls was fabulous! Thanks for a great experience!!
This house was perfect for 10 adults (5 couples). We loved gathering for meals and games at the large dining table and relaxing in the living room around the fire at night.
Comfy beds, plenty of parking, and plenty of space for all!
We stayed at Highcliff Hacienda for a week with two other couples. All of us thought the house was perfect, and loved the fact that there were three king beds. We also loved the design, and especially enjoyed sitting on the large deck on the back of the house in the early morning and late evening Thank you for sharing your beautiful home.
Secluded in the trees with very little view of Grandfather Mountain or the valley, this house is a little hard to drive in and out of each day. If staying in the house, it would be fine.
We had the misfortune of timing our visit as a tropical storm dumped 4 inches of rain on us. However, this spacious house gave plenty of space for our teens and children to occupy themselves playing ping pong and enjoying the different rooms. We were snug and dry and even ventured out during a break in the rain to hike down to Otter Falls. The next day brought sunshine and the surprise amazing view of Grandfather Mountain right from the house.
I recommend this location and we loved our stay.
The house has so much space for the family. Our little one as well as adults loved looking out the large windows to see all the deer and other wildlife that came right up in the yard. We loved exploring the woods behind us with all the waterfalls. Looking out the back seeing Grandfather Mountain View was breath taken. We will be staying here again.
It was wonderful. View from back porch was amazing. Loved watching the deer walking through the yard. House was beautiful. We had enough bedrooms and bathrooms. When I messaged you about coffee maker, you answer quickly and got us a new one the same day. We would come back here again if open when we come.
The house is situated in a very beautiful /peaceful area. We truly enjoyed our stay. We were traveling with 9 people ages 2-81 we all had a blast and we definitely want to come back. The house was cleaned enough but I would not say it was spotless. We felt very comfortable in the beds provided and the kitchen is very well equipped. The views are absolutely gorgeous and we were so happy to enjoy them from inside as well as from the deck. The nice 12 people dinning table had the best view of the house and we spent so much time there.
This was a lovely property with room for everyone. The views out the back were beautiful and we had deer visit every afternoon. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking supplies and spices. There were notes giving helpful instructions about the heating units, supplies, etc. The beds were comfortable, and the linens adequate. My teenage boys loved exploring the trails off the back of the home and loved having the ping pong table on the first level. I highly recommend this rental and hope to return in the future.
Our family (6) went with another family (3) to ski Sugar Mtn. toward the end of the ski season. We stayed three nights. The house is everything that you want in a mountain house and has a warm/cozy cabin like feel to it.
Plenty spacious with some rooms/areas we didn’t even use. The outdoor porch (which appears to be relatively new) overlooks the woods and mountains in the distance. We saw plenty of deer and other wildlife up close, which the kids loved.
The kitchen is small, as others have mentioned, but totally doable. We cooked 3-4 times without experiencing any kind of “space issues”.
The weather was perfect so we never had a need to touch the thermostat. I think the temperature inside remained a constant 65 or so. The top floor did get a little toasty our last night there so we opened a couple of windows and it cooled down quite a bit.
The winding roads leading up to the house from the main road are steep. Both my wife and my buddys wife were white knuckled and petrified the first time we climbed up to the house. Thankfully the roads were clear and our trucks abs SUV’s were able to climb with no problem. I’m not gonna lie...if the roads were snowy or icy, you will absolutely need 4-wheel drive and I might suggest throwing on a set of tire chains before you make the assent. I did see remnants of sand and salt on the roads which makes me think that they are being properly maintained for winter driving up and down the mountain.
Sugar mountain was a short 15-20 minute drive. Same with local grocery and restaurants. There is a gas station at the bottom of the hill where it connects to he main road. Probably a 5-7 minute drive from the house.
The only issue that we experienced was that on our last night there, the toilet on the main floor randomly clogged. We tried to plunge it but no luck. We thought, “no big deal, there are two other bathrooms”. Later that night the toilet on the top floor randomly clogged and one of the guests from the top floor came down into the basement to use our toilet where my wife and I were staying. No problem...until that toilet also clogged. 😳😳😳The next morning I randomly heard the top floor toilet flush (thank God) and then I was able to plunge the basement toilet to flush. The main floor toilet still wasn’t flushing when we left.
All in all, great trip and GREAT house! We will be back!
Get ready to put that AWD to the test. This spacious mountain home sits above the clouds for sure. As a matter of fact, thats about all we saw while we were up there! It's a spacious location with fireplaces in the main locations (3) and TV's in each room. The bedrooms were a little tight but overall ok for our ski weekend. Its close to everything so once you drive down from the home you are within a few miles of Sugar, restaurant and grocery stores. Overall I enjoyed my stay.
