Amazing view, great property, wonderful location outside of town, but still super accessible.
Everything was awesome and the photos only tell part of the story. The main house is all one level and very open. We had a family of 5 and family of 3 traveling together. The 5 stayed in the main house and the 3 stayed in the cottage. Four kids ages 6-11 and all had plenty to do.
Everyone had lots of space. We were able to share the main house kitchen and living areas comfortably. The outside space is fantastic with gorgeous sunrise and sunset views. You can see seals and porpoises from the yard and catch crabs from the dock... Likely some fish too but we didn't bring any fishing gear - closest place to get any is the Walmart in ellsworth.
Local restaurants are pricey but enjoyable. Geddys was great for the kids. Popovers at the Stadium were excellent if you don't want to fight thru the Jordan pond house.
We biked acadia, hiked, whale watched, diver Ed's, shopped in town, drove down to bass harbor lighthouse (walk the trail *and* the paved path in opposite directions.. Great views). All worth it.
Note on the whale watch - soooo many pukers. Thankfully not us. The walgreens in town had dramamine and walgreens brand bonine but bring some if you can. We were medicated and mostly good on some rocky seas. Captain warned everyone several times, but everyone decided to stay on board and go on the trip. Guaranteed dozens regretted it. Also - dress in layers and bring more clothes than you need. We are new englanders and were in long pants, hoodies, jackets and some were still a little cold. That being said, we saw 3 whales, a bald eagle, about a hundred dolphiny things, and some seals. Good stuff.
Diver Ed's is ridiculous but fun.
Back to the house... The views are unbeatable. 2 staircases (20 steps or so total) down to the rocky shore. Lots of seaglass. We brought the kayaks and paddleboards down and checked things out a bit.
Top of cadillac mountain is awesome. If you don't know about the national park passport program, check it out at the Hulls Cove visitors center and then get your passport stamped. The kids loved it and are excited for future travels.
Can't wait to come back to bar harbor and would return to this property in a heartbeat.
Some extra things to pack - tupperware/ziplocs if you're a leftovers family, seasonings, grab firewood when you get there, a flashlight, and you're good to go. Have fun!!
