This hotel was the perfect location in Zamalek. Just off the main street, walking distance to everything for my needs as my relatives live on the island. Will definitely stay there again.
I stayed 4 nights. Breakfast is provided and I have no complaint about food or restaurant staff. amiable and polite staff, speaks very minimal English. that did not affect the quality of service.

Do not do my mistake
The worst hotel I have ever stayed in my life.
It was the worst experience. Reception, cleanliness. The staff's voices are loud, especially in the morning when you can't sleep or enjoy the quiet.
I have been to Cairo a fair bit in the past and will definitely stay in this hotel again. It was good value for the price, in a quiet location (ignore other on-line reviews about the noisy school oppposite - kids don't arrive until 0730 hrs), easy access to both sides of the Nile, passable breakfast included, lots of Ubers nearby and good shops. Staff were very hepful. Room was clean & comfortable and everything worked in the bathroom.
I was very happy with the location, close to small shops, cafes and restaurants, I liked the neighbourhood, the room was good however the shower was not working properly, so the water was hot, and the bidet was leaking, so in the morning we stepped into a wet bathroom floor, a bit dangerous, but otherwise we liked our stay there.
We were upgraded to a suite. The location is great, 2 min from a mai road with loads of local transport, shops, restaurants, takeaways, art shops, the Nile banks and pharmacies.
One insignificant issue for us was a school opposite the hotel. School drop offs start at 7 am. We are early risers, was not a problem.
This is the second time I have stayed at the New Star Hotel Zamalek. This hotel remains excellent value for money: the staff were friendly, the room was clean, nothing leaked in the bathroom, the hot water was hot, everything worked, and a standard Egyptian breakfast was included with the room rate. As a solo female traveller, I felt safe in the neighbourhood and in the hotel. The other thing I like about this hotel is the location. At the northern end of Zamelek, it's close to the east and west banks of the Nile for travel by Uber, but in a quiet neighbourhood. Will be back for sure!
The hotel was dirty and smokey. There were no locks inside our room. The sliding door didnt lock. There was no potable water. The neighborhood was loud abd felt unsafe. Check in staff were rude abd intimidating.
The hotel and area around are fine, what is not made clear however, is the fact that there a a school directly opposite.
The pupils and staff are in the playground from 6:30am and the noise is horrific.
Yelling children, drums banging, staff shouting through loudspeakers and then singing.
This is daily, making sleeping past 6:30 in the morning impossible and to be honest totally ruined our stay.
The pictures are not an accurate representation of this hotel. It is down a dimly lit alley and across the street from a school. The school will wake you up in the morning.
The lack of cleanliness is an issue. There was hair on the sheets and a few bugs as well. Mold in the shower. Exposed wire in the bedroom. The handles on the doors nearly fell off.
I have arrived late due to delayed flight from US and when I went to check in hotel was told that my reservation was canceled and if I wanted to rent a room I would pay for it again. I have already paid for 3 nights and the won’t let me stay for the remainder of my reservation because I was late checking in. Totally ridiculous and the attitude of the front desk personnel was unacceptable. I was in the middle of the night and I had to look for another hotel with my kids. I called Expedia customer service and the lady tried to call the hotel and of course they didn’t answer her call so she asked me to go back and use my cell phone to speak to front desk and still couldn’t get me a room there for the remaining of my reservation. Will not ever go back or recommend anyone to go there
