About this property

Oceanfront Manini Beachfront Getaway - Minutes to Kona Coast / Captain Cook

  • Summary:

Wake to the sound of water and step onto the lanai while the Kona Coast comes alive around you. This oceanfront Captain Cook home gives up to eight guests four bedrooms, 2. 5 baths, and a front-row setting for slow coffee, salt-air dinners, and sunset color over the Pacific. Grill the catch of the day, gather in the light-filled living room, or set out for the clear water at Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park. Ho'okena Beach Park and South Kona's coffee country make easy day trips when you want to explore. Back home, a full kitchen and washer and dryer keep a family beach week simple. There is no air conditioning here, so the home relies on ceiling fans and ocean breezes. This is for a family or group that wants the Big Island to feel close, quiet, and beautifully real.

    The Space:

Vaulted ceilings, broad glass doors, and cool flooring keep the living space bright and open, with the water always in view. Four bedrooms and 2. 5 baths sleep eight, while the full kitchen, breakfast bar, washer and dryer, and garage make longer stays easy. The home is not air-conditioned, so open doors, ceiling fans, and the ocean breeze set the rhythm indoors.

    Guest Access:

Guests at Manini Beachfront Getaway enjoy a private entrance with a lit path for easy arrivals after dark, along with garage parking. This oceanfront home features beautiful sea and water views, outdoor seating, and a patio or balcony with a BBQ grill for enjoying meals while taking in the coastal setting. Inside, guests have access to a full kitchen and laundry facilities for added convenience.

    The Neighborhood:

Captain Cook is South Kona at its most unhurried: coffee farms, lava coast, and deep-blue water without the bustle of a resort strip. Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park is the signature outing here, known for clear-water snorkeling, kayaking, and history. Ho'okena Beach Park is another favorite for a relaxed beach day. Plan on driving for dining and supplies, then come home for the kind of sunset and surf soundtrack that makes a South Kona stay feel wonderfully removed from the rush.

    Getting Around:

Kona International Airport is roughly 35 to 45 minutes away along the scenic Kona Coast. A rental car is recommended for exploring local coffee farms, shops, dining, and beaches. Kealakekua Bay and nearby snorkeling spots are close by, while most other South Kona destinations require a drive. Parking is available on site for this home.

    Other Things to Note:

โ€ข No smoking is permitted anywhere on the premises.

โ€ข This home is not equipped with air-conditioning.

โ€ข This property is managed by Heavenly Vacations.

Manini Beach Paradise

Great location & view! Loved seeing the whales & dolphins from our front lanai & just a short walk to see amazing sunsets. Granddaughters got quite a kick out of watching the house geckos & even named them!

Big Island Vacation

Highly recommend this place. Beautiful house overlooking the bay. Very short distance to beach park with incredible snorkeling. Has a local vibe after driving down very curvy road to the bottom of mountain.

New Year's Holiday

Our holiday home on Kealakekua Bay met more than muster for our family of 6 ranging in age from 5-79. The house was pristine and furnished all desired amenitites. We had a direct view of the bay through wide, open, living room doors and lanai, and a short walk to the snorkeling area at Manini Beach. As Midwesterners, we could not have hoped for a more "exotic" Hawaiian experience.Highly, highly recommend.

Amazing Experience!

First time staying in a VRBO. Wonderful experience. The home was beautiful, the location amazing. Oceanfront views out the front, with dolphins each morning in the bay. Jungle and tropical atmosphere in the back. A perfect escape! Very private and quiet (except for the birds each morning -lol!) Property was well-maintained and very clean. Communication with the property manager via text was very convenient and they replied very quickly to my questions. I would definetly go back to this property!

Great location and home

We thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay at the Manini Beachfront Getaway. The location was perfect for accessing some of the best snorkeling on the island and the views were impeccable. The house was stocked with the essentials (and a few fun nonessentials like art supplies and outdoors equipment!) and clean upon arrival. For the one appliance that we did have issues with during our stay, Maintenance was fantastic and so easy to work with. Thank you! Our stay was unforgettable. To all those who do consider booking in the future, do keep in mind that thereโ€™s no AC. It can get quite warm sometimes on the island, but fortunately they have an assortment of fans!

Amazing location, quiet street, incredible view

We traveled to Hawaii for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary and stayed here for 4 days. This is a great old house that has been nicely upgraded and has a lot of character. One of the bathrooms and one bedroom are only accessible from outside, which confused us at first but they were all clean. The house sits right on the bay and allows you to really open it up to let the breezes blow through. That made it comfortable through most of the day. The kitchen was well-appointed and clean. There is a great kayak rental place around the corner (Ehu and Kai's) which allows you to put in right from the bay rather than having to rent a kayak further up the hill and driving it down. They were very nice. There's also a small park nearby and a well-stocked fruit stand. The gardner gave us a great tip on a secluded sandy beach a short drive away (look up Ke'ei Beach) that was completely empty and had tons of coconut palms and tide pools to explore. The house is also not too far from a well-stocked supermarket just up the hill and is a short drive from Kona but far enough away to feel like you're out of the city. We had a great time and highly recommend this rental! Thank you for having us.

Perfectly named - Beachfront Getaway

This was the perfect spot for our family of six adults and one baby. The pictures do it justice and are not deceptive. The bedrooms are a bit quirky (other than the large top-floor master); if someone wished to hang out in the privacy of their own room this might not be right for them. The garage-level bedroom is a bit of an afterthought, somewhat dark and dank; its shower is outside and the half-bath is up the back lanai steps. The main-floor great room is a wonder! With all the doors open you are practically outside (get to know your neighborhood geckos!) but sitting pretty with a gentle breeze wafting in off Kealakekua Bay, assisted by numerous ceiling fans. Furnishings and artwork are attractive and island-appropriate. Kitchen is well-appointed. Linens and towels are practically new. The beds are quite comfortable. TV has many channels. Watch spinner dolphins cavort in the Bay off the front lanai, while the back lanai is quite private, surrounded with foliage - great for bird-watching and comfortable for group meals (the gas grill worked fine). Napo'op'o/Manini is down a twisty two lane road. Other than a kayak rental and sometimes fruit stand there is NO retail; everything you need to eat or buy are at least ten minutes away, while the city of Kailua-Kona is a half-hour drive. Manini Beach Park is a two minute walk away. โ€œBeachโ€ is a bit misleading; this is a grassy, waterfront park generously shaded by coconut trees. A trail goes out to the rocky western point, a great place to watch the sun set. There are no sandy beaches along Kealakekua Bay (a small one was swept away by a hurricane 30 years ago). The โ€œsandโ€ is fist-sized chunks of broken white coral and black lava. A little natural inlet in the park gives a spot from which you can swim. If there is an ocean swell this can be a bit tricky to navigate and might unnerve weak swimmers (the famous Two-Step is ten minutes away and can sometimes be difficult, too). Snorkeling is quite good just to the right or left; going straight out doesn't pay off. Many fish and surprisingly decent coral. Captain Cook Monument is a twenty minute paddle across the Bay; it has the best snorkeling in the state. Manini Beachfront Getaway is an idyllic retreat. Quiet hours are from 9PM to 8AM - be serenaded by the frogs at night! If you are open to them the neighbors are friendly and welcoming.

Gorgeous home and location

Fantastic home and location in Captain Cook. Felt like we were in a treehouse on the bay. Well appointed home and kitchen with everything you could need. Incredible views and spacious enough for 6 adults and one kid to do everything we wanted. Plenty of fans to keep the house cool and we truly had a magical stay!

Paradise

The most beautiful location and view of the bay from the lounge. The house was well equipped with everything you could need. We had such a great time on the island, even got to see an erupting volcano (very blessed with the timing of that on our trip) Dolphins, turtles, and ray in the bay. AWESOME

Paradise getaway

Walking distance from a private beach, overlooking the ocean, this paradise getaway proved to be even more magical than its pictures represent. In a quiet, tucked-away hamlet, my family enjoyed the proximity to the Volcano Park, the black and white sand beaches, and then coming home to this spacious yet charming abode. The pantry and kitchen were well-stocked. I also appreciated the beach chairs, umbrella and mat for our excursions.

Great spot on the bay

The house was just what we needed - clean and comfy, close to the water, great views. We used the kayaks a few times and that was a highlight of the trip - we'd have used them daily if the weather had been calmer. Really enjoyed the opportunity to get into the water right from the house. Owner was communicative and helpful. Thanks!

Snorkeling Paradise

A beautiful view of the bay. A comfortable house with great amenities. It had just about everything we could ask for. A quiet neighborhood, we could hear the surf crashing at night. The owner was helpful with info about local activities. It was a short walk to 3 really good snorkeling spots. Short kayak trip across the bay to a great snorkeling spot, Capt. Cook. Short drive to another great snorkeling spot, Two Step. I would stay here again.

Great home in quiet, beautiful location

Tucked into a quiet neighborhood on a single lane road fronting a marine preserve with great snorkeling and kayaking just outside the door. Comfortable and thoughtfully furnished, a short drive to great food and a large market, kitchen is ready for cooking. Kayaks, snorkel gear and bikes provided for use are all in great shape. Perfect if you want time away from crowds and are interested in local history. Farmer's Market up the road on Saturdays. We will definitely come back!

Puako

We LOVED this house! It isn't 'fancy' - but the location is unbeatable. We spent most of our time on the lawn or on the beach - or sitting in a tide pool (at low tide) with a beer. The snorkeling was better than on our booked snorkeling tours. The house is very well equipped and very comfortable. I would go back in a heartbeat!

Wonderful Home to Escape To

We loved our stay in this house--it is a great location right across the street from the Bay. We were lucky to swim with dolphins in the bay several times. The house is convenient to most locations including the Volcanoes and the North Shore beaches. We did not venture to Hilo as it was raining there most of our trip while it was beautiful every day in Captain Cook. The house is very well equipped and we enjoyed the kayaks quite a bit. The owner was responsive to our needs and we could not have been happier. We never wanted to leave!
