The city of Catania can boast a splendid historic center, protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Its architectural wonders, but also the liveliness of the popular markets, the wild beauty of Mount Etna and the clear sea of the coast will captivate you.

The Cathedral of St. Agatha (the city's patron saint), the Bellini Theater, the popular markets, Via Etnea, the splendid Benedictine Monastery (home of the University's Department of Human Sciences) and Mount Etna are just some of the wonders of this city.

Of course, it is impossible to leave out the traditional culinary delights of Catania, such as arancini (yes, they are called masculine here!), iris (fried or baked stuffed bombs), olivette di Sant'Agata, and brioche with granita. All to be tried!

And for lovers of barbecued horsemeat, a symbol of Catania's gastronomic tradition, a must stop is via del Plebiscito, a street in the historic center flooded with the unmistakable scent of the ever-burning embers.

Another not-to-be-missed stop just outside Catania is the coast, and in particular the Gulf of Acitrezza, an enchanting location that, with its stacks, was chosen by Giovanni Verga as the setting for his most famous novel, "I Malavoglia."



Catania Fontanarossa airport is a quarter of an hour's drive from the accommodation, while Catania Central Station is 1.4 km away.
