Portola Hotel & Spa at Monterey Bay

8/10 Good

"I was disappointed with our room assignment since we were on the top floor and very near Fisherman's wharf and downtown. Our room featured a view of the roof right next to us. Called guest services to inquire about changing and they were able to get us in another which featured a partial view, but gave up accessibility features and paid another $50/night for the entire stay. Location was convenient. Rooms were clean and staff was unfailingly pleasant. But very little space to hang or store clothing which is inconvenient if you want to unpack. One small section of the closet had four or five shelves for shoes, but not much else. None of the furniture (night stand, tables or counter tops) had drawers or doors that opened. A little odd . . ."

"The hotel was clean and comfortable, although a bit noisy. It was not convenient to get in and out of the parking lot, although being so close to Carmel is great. The staff was very helpful, and we enjoyed our stay."

"We love the Quality Suites in SLO! Feels like home—comfy beds and linens, rooms cleaned and stocked daily with fresh towels, good breakfast, cool firepits, a community courtyard with relaxing pool and hot tub and easy walk to downtown or short drive to Cal Poly campus. We stayed during orientation and came back for move in. Perfect for the two of us in one room and our daughter had her own space in a separate living area with pullout bed! We will be back!"

"The restaurant was not very good - I would recommend an upgrade to the menu. The bread was awful. Plus, there was no coffee available in the lobby at all in the morning. I had asked that my room be cleaned and they asked what time I preferred that. I told them 10 am but nothing was ever done by 4:30 - very disappointing."

"The room is nice very clean some difficult with the TV, which was no batteries in the remote, the front desk gave me fresh batteries, so that was good. Well, we both didn’t like was the gigantic pillows. Some people love them. Some people not quite hate, but don’t like them and we didn’t like them. There’s a consensus running around 52 to 57% who don’t like those giant pillows and and the consensus that people like the pillows are less than 50% but that’s only in one survey. Next time we come, which we will come, we’ll bring our own pillows.. last time I was here it was six or seven years ago and to be truthful the breakfast was better of course the breakfast room was in the bar and so it was different, but this breakfast was good, but some of the food was cold and no hot chocolate otherwise it was pretty good. We will be back"
