small group of 3-4 coworkers in town for a McCormick Place product show - Second time renting this VRBO for such an occasion. Much less expensive than individual hotels and just a half block from Rush Street restaurants. This VRBO would also be great for families of four or more.

Truly beautiful and unique townhome, with tons of charm and lots of space. The location could not be better … steps away from Michigan Ave and then also the shops on Rush and Division. Highly recommend

The is a beautiful historic home in a prime location just off Magnificent Mile. The home was clean and spacious. The garage was a plus. The house is conveniently located in the heart of Chicago with easy access to all Chicago’s neighborhoods. Gibson’s Steakhouse and the Original House of Pancakes are on the same street and both were hits with my teenagers. Communication with the property manager was timely and he made it easy to check in and out. I would highly recommend this property for your next trip to Chicago.

We stayed at this townhome because our daughter was running in the Chicago marathon. The location could NOT have been any better. It is a very short walk to the Magnificent Mile and close to the race start/finish, and there are grocery and restaurant options nearby. We were looking for a four bedroom place and I couldn't find anything else that fit the bill, so we are very glad to have had this. The home is old, so has some issues that one might expect. However, on top of those, the floors were not very clean, the fan above the stovetop didn't work, and there were even some tips of nails (the sharp part!) sticking out of the hall floor on the third floor. The radiators are extremely noisy when heating up. One should know that it is 39 steps from the main level to the master (which was not a problem for us). The property managers were very responsive to inquiries before, during and after our stay. Having noted all that, we were happy with our stay overall.

As a whole everything was great. We stayed as a family (all adults) to run the Chicago Half Marathon. Location was perfect and very convenient for both the race and to enjoy shopping and eating out. However, upon arrival there were dirty sheets in the bathtub as well as towels and sheets in the washer and dryer. It was clear that the cleaning staff did not finish cleaning on time. Thankfully, they were very receptive and offered to come take care of things upon messaging. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay!

If safety and customer service are your top priorities then do not rent this house. There was a mix up in the booking schedule and we showed up early to our reservation. That's when we found out that the door codes we were given to access the property were the same keys that they give all the renters. The codes we had were already programmed in and the key locks were open. The current renters were still inside the house when we walked in. When we contacted the owners and asked why we had the same door codes as the current renters they dismissed the situation claiming that they change the codes regularly. They refused to answer us as to why we were given codes several days in advance that matched the same access codes as the current renters. When we stated that we no longer felt safe or comfortable staying in a property with such lax security the owners refused to give a refund and let us cancel. AT NO TIME DID THEY OFFER ANY POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS! They ignored our questions regarding the security concerns and only responded that if we canceled we were not eligible for a refund. We called customer support and they were also concerned about he security and called the owners. Again the owners refused to allow us to cancel and still did nothing to offer a solution to the problem. It wasn't till the customer support manager asked them if they would be willing to immediately change the security codes that the owners finally agreed to anything. DO NOT TRUST THIS PROPER

Besides the location of the property not much else to be desired. Upon check we noticed several items or concern. Items of concern include a garbage bag over the second floor non functioning toilet, un-vacuumed carpets/rugs, no dishwasher tabs, no kitchen garbage bags, dead bugs and cob webs in the windows, no shades/blinds in the master bedroom, burnt out light bulbs in lamps, non functional TVs, and two busted knobs on the kitchen stove. Theses were communicated to the property manager immediately and we did not receive a response until after our stay was complete and we had returned home. Very disappointed in our stay here.

The house is really great as is the location. I generally find that AirBNB/VRBO properties tend to be much worse in reality than they seem in the listing, but I actually think they undersell this property. Giving 4 stars instead of 5 due to the messaging from the host after booking until check in. Host was very serious about no parties/events (we had no intention of this) and that post-10pm (the listing says 11pm, feels like bait and switch) must be quiet, and if not the host will call private security/evict you/shut off power and water. These are pretty serious measures to throw around and made me feel very uneasy despite having no intention of having a party. Perhaps they did have a bad experience in the past but threat of eviction/shutting off power and water is too serious unless I would have broken some law with the noise, but the mention of private security made me feel that the bar for "noise" could be unreasonably low.

This is an impressive building, built in 1881. It is in an expensive and prestigious part of Chicago, and a good value. The age of the townhome and the construction on the street mean that it is not squeaky clean, but the charm of the architecture and the location make up for that. My problem is with the listing, which states it has 4 full bathrooms. That is not correct. There is a bathroom on the third floor, a bathroom on the second floor, and a half bath (only toilet and sink) on the main floor. Unclear why VRBO allows this mistake to stand. THE TOILET ON THE SECOND FLOOR HAS BEEN BROKEN since at least July 10 when another reviewer flagged it. It was still broken when I checked in on July 29 and not usable for our entire stay. There is a basement studio suite with access to the garage, thus access to the townhome. Not sure why VRBO allows such a security breach. Most guests rave about the location, which no doubt accounts for the many five-star reviews.

I had thought about leaving a bland “this place is good” type review, however those are all the reviews that I read when booking this place, and wish I had some more honest input given the price. The place is in a great location. There was awesome communication up until the actual rental started, and the owner even reimbursed us for some purchases when we said we wanted beach chairs! It was looking to be a really great trip. Upon arrival, the cleaning crew / house manager was there (we arrived a little early). We were then informed that the toilet on the second floor was broken. At first I thought no big deal, they said it would be fixed in a day. The toilet was covered with a black trash bag, which just felt a bit gross, but we still were excited. We then realized that half of the stove burners weren’t working, and the ovens were quite unpredictable. Additionally, there was old food in the stove knobs, crusted in there, and it was clear no one had really made an attempt to clean them. I contacted the house manager and she continued to respond regarding the toilet, but did not address the stove / oven issue. The house was also extremely hot. This is July in Chicago, and the AC really only works on the 3rd floor. And even then, the small top room with bunk beds got zero air flow and was unbearably hot. The other room up there was freezing due to us trying to crank the air to keep the rest of the house cool. The AC never really reached the 2nd or 1st floors, so we constantly repositioned the one fan that was in the house depending on where we were. The back room of the kitchen was an obvious extension, which was fine, but again it was so hot it was hard to be in there. That is where the tv is, and many of the tv hookups weren’t connected and we struggled to be able to watch anything (even when trying to log into our own apps). The sofa and chair were quite disgusting with stains and hair all over them. We had planned to cook multiple meals & were unable to do so. lack of response from the property manager regarding the state of the kitchen was quite frustrating. The house itself is old, which we had expected, but it doesn’t appear to have been maintained given the state of the kitchen and bathrooms. At one point the property manager asked us if we left the water running because the basement was flooded. We hadn’t. But they insisted they had to come in. During that time, neither the kitchen nor bathroom / toilet situation were addressed.

Beautiful old Gold Coast Townhouse within walking distance of everything we needed. Spacious accommodations with a lovely large dining area and comfortable TV lounging area at back of house. Close to plenty of dining options and Lake Michigan. Fully stocked kitchen, comfortable beds and bedding. Plenty of towels, coffee and tea. Comfy robes in every bedroom. Overall a wonderful experience.

It was great to stay in a beautiful grey stone in Gold Coast. Better yet it is located in an excellent area, less than 1/4 mile walking distance to the lake, around the corner from Michigan Avenue shopping, the Hancock Building, the Drake, Lou Malnati's and other great restaurants, and pharmacy-- we walked to all of these places! It felt like a home away from home with the layout of the home and nice neighborhood. It was stocked up with everything one needs in the kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms and family spaces. The interior was clean, welcoming and nicely decorated. My family was in town for my daughter's wedding and it was the perfect house for pre- and post-wedding activities. From when I reserved the house almost a year ago, to checking in, to checking out, were seamless. Julian was very responsive and clearly communicated all relevant information for the stay. It was noted the internet was not working upon check in, I notified Julian and in less than a couple hours, we had internet. The entire stay of 5 days were wonderful for me and my family. The experience setting it up to sadly checking out were pretty straightforward and easy. A big thank you to Julian and Jackie for the positive experience and the hospitality!

Gorgeous, large townhouse. We loved the location and the townhouse itself. The lock box was a little confusing because there are 2. In the age of door codes, I wasn’t expecting this. Another word of note: the staircase is old and the wood is worn on some places. If you have small children or someone who is unstable on their feet you might want to consider this.
