Beautiful thatched cottage. Walk to the beach and village

The House: This is a beautiful Traditional thatched cottage in an idyllic location right next to Claddaghduff village. It has great views of the sea and Omey Island. Claddaghduff is a good centre for a holiday and is about 8 miles from Clifden. The walk to the beach is only a few minutes. Omey Island can be reached on foot at low tide across the famous Omey Strand. Each year the hold the Omey races on the strand for 1 day only and this is an experience not to be missed! There are also a great walks in the area including the Aughrus Peninsula circular walk and the Cleggan Head walk.

There is a shop and pub in the village of Claddaghduff just a 5 min walk away. In the nearby village of Cleggan there are three pubs and a shop and you can catch a ferry here to visit the islands of Inishbofin and Inishturk. You can also go deep sea fishing on one of the local charter boats. On a clear summer evening there is a spectacular view of the sunset across the sea and Atlantic islands.

Inside: You walk into a great little porch where you can leave your sandy clothes or your mucky boats. Off a small corridor to your left you will find a cosy high ceiling sitting room with sea views. Enjoy the open fire or take a seat at the writing desk and get creative while watching the sea. From the sitting from you have a few steps down into the kitchen/dining area. The kitchen has everything you could want to cook a great seafood meal for the family aswell as dishwasher, washing machine & dryer. At the other end of the room you find the dining table in the conservatory area, offering you sea views while you enjoy your meal. At the other end of the cottage you find a twin & double room both with sea views. And a large bathroom with large walk-in shower & separate bathroom.

This whole cottage is full of character from the thatched roof, high ceiling, old style open fire & old country furniture throughout. There is also outside decking and a large grass area surfacing the cottage, perfect for children to enjoy.

On arrival at the property we discovered the agent was not expecting us so the house key was not there and after several phone calls we eventually got in when the house keeper arrived. The house had not been cleaned and no beds made up. The fridge was dirty and no loo paper or kitchen paper etc supplied. The agent did give us a refund in fairness but 1st impressions are so important. Also we had no TV or microwave available

The cottage at claddaghduff was very quaint and surprisingly cosy and comfortable. Our 2 small kids loved the idea of the tatch roof and keeping an eye out over the fabulous view of Omey strand to see if the tide was in or out!! They never once missed the TV and its absence contributed in a really memorable family holiday. The walk down to Omey strand and to Sweeneys shop and bar are just perfect. WIFI is extremely good... House was very well kitted out and had everything we needed for our stay. Beds and bedding were super cosy and everywhere just felt really clean and fresh when we arrived. Only a couple of points I think needed attention in the house....the central heating didn't work at all during our stay...didnt cause us many problems as the weather was mild and only a few damp days but once Sept comes it would be a different story. Hot water was working perfect though so no issues with that. The other thing was the fridge...not sure that it is working properly as we had to through quite abit of spoiled food... All said I would definitely stay again Connemara Costal Cottages were so good to deal with, it was a pleasure to deal with real people and not a booking platform

Great location however some comfort upgrading needed. The sitting room was extremely uncomfortable. The chairs and sofa need replacing as they were so low to the ground. The fire doesn't heat the room at all but looks nice. The heating didn't work and the guy we phoned said " we are used to the cold around here" lived 20 miles away and had no intention of popping over to try and sort it. Probably because we were leaving the following day? Luckily we had good weather for 5 day's so jumpers sufficed during the rain and wind! No microwave but plenty of space for one. Get the heating fixed and a new sofa and I'll be back!
