"It's a very old pub with lots of character, for value it's great, yes it's abit dated ,but that's the character bit, hosts are lovely, food fantastic, big big portions , we only stopped one night as a stop over to Aberdeen, but would certainly stay there again"
"Very clear instructions how to sign in. Room was lovely with a view of the sea and very good value for money! They even let me know that the carpark was going to be out of use due to the local festival taking place in the carpark. Only slight issue was the very good selection of books available that I couldn't possibly read in one night!! 😅! All in all a very nice place! 👍"
"The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. Check in staff were very helpful. The food was mostly good but there was a bit of an issue with serving the main course and we were left waiting for a long time, with no-one advising what the issue was that was holding up the meal. Unfortunately, the steak was very rare instead of medium but we had waited so long to receive it that my husband did not send it back as it would have meant waiting even longer. Also the amuse bouche that should have been included in the summer set menu did not materialise. Other than that, breakfast was good and served quickly. I found out later there was only one chef which may have explained the delay but it would have been helpful to kept abreast of the situation. However, we enjoyed our stay and the hotel was in an excellent location with parking available, and I would certainly stay there again."
"The property is situated near North Berwick and has beautiful gardens. The building itself is a bit tired. Our room was disappointing for the grade of hotel. Coffee facilities were basis (one packet of two pieces of shortbread to share!). The cooked breakfast was lovely but the continental selection was very poor compared to similar hotels and given that one of the main selling points of the hotel is the Chez Roux restaurant. Cleanliness not what we would have expected either - some litter in our room either from the previous guests or the cleaner and the glass door in the restaurant was covered in finger prints. Heavy stains on the hall carpeting. Overall a pleasant enough stay but we felt not worth the money compared to other 5 star hotels we have stayed in this year."
"Friendly staff, had room 4 over looking the river and gardens, big bathroom. Good breakfast plenty of it. Close to the centre of town but in a quiet location. Would stop a few days next time."
"Beautiful hotel and grounds in a great area, within walking distance of the shops, restaurants and riverside walk. The staff were very helpful and breakfast was superb with no wait. The hotel is a little run-down and needing investment but that was reflected in the price I paid; the overall experience and service was first rate."
