The *Main* Aspen Lakehouse at Skagway Reservoir
At 9,100’ elevation on 80 peaceful acres surrounded by aspen trees, it overlooks beautiful Skagway Reservoir (great trout fishing lake and excellent for canoeing or small boats) located 12 miles from Cripple Creek, and approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes from western Colorado Springs. It's the perfect place to veg out and relax, or it can be a great spot to come home to at the end of a long day of hiking and exploring!

This is a beautiful property. It is remote, as advertised. It had everything that our family needed. The dirt road coming in, the driveway, is extremely steep… And when wet, may not be passable by all cars. We will definitely come stay again.
Aspen Lakehouse was wonderful for my family get-together. The setting was beautiful with the nearby trout-filled lake and the aspen trees at their peak color while we were there. The cabin was spacious and well-equipped. Lots to do in the area including fishing, hiking, exploring the back roads, and visits to Victor and Cripple Creek. The host was very responsive. We had one minor maintenance issue while we were there, and it was taken care of very quickly after contacting the host. Aspen Lakehouse is highly recommended, and we look forward to staying there again in the future.
We enjoyed staying at this house with several families over Labor Day weekend. The property has amazing views and Skaguay Reservoir is great to boat, fish, and SUP in!
What a view! I still can’t get over the beautiful location of this property and the stunning view from the wrap-around porch. We spent many hours just relaxing out there and taking it all in. Very comfortable stay for our group of 11 with 3 full bathrooms and 2 large master suites plus smaller bedrooms. Very clean, huge kitchen, lots of table/seating space. Short drive to Cripple Creek and Victor which were neat historic towns, plus a lovely reservoir/rec area just down the hill. (Just be mindful of the super high altitude and take it easy if you’re not used to it!!) Owner very kind and responsive. Very easy check-out procedures too. Loved everything about this stay and property!
This home was what every picture perfect winter wonderland should look like. The house was well stocked and had everything to make our family feel at home. We will definitely be back. Thank you for having us!!
House was perfect for our family. There was plenty of room, house was very clean, and amazing views. Definitely need a 4x4 if visiting in the winter season.
Amazing home for our 4th of July family reunion. Well equipped with everything you may need. The views are spectacular and we will definitely rent again! The memories will last a lifetime!
We had an absolutely wonderful time at the cabin. We are a family of ten (3 daughters, 2 sons in law, 3 grandsons, plus my wife and I), and the cabin size was perfect. It had everything we needed. We sat on the wraparound porch every day watching the hummingbirds and admiring the beauty of the scenery below. A short drive to the reservoir allowed us to fish or hike the trail along the creek. We are all in agreement that this was the most relaxing vacation taken as a family. I highly recommend this cabin. We are already looking for dates for next year!
My favorite Colorado experience.since I was a child!
Views of Pikes Peak (you can see lights at night) and Cheyenne Mountain. A fantastic home with huge kitchen and massive main level covered deck which probably has more square feet than my house. Excellent fishing at the reservoir just down the road. We also saw a Bald Eagle, Coopers Hawk, Rufous Hummingbird and Stellars Jay. I also saw Big Horn Sheep on my way out. Perfect, Beautiful and Relaxing!..
One of the best places we have stayed! Layout of the house and bedrooms was perfect for our family. We all have many stresses in our lives right now and this was a place to have some peace and just enjoy family time. Kitchen was well stocked. Home was clean and so comfy. There was room to spread out and plenty of solitude, but perfect for family meals and games. The reservoir was a short jaunt down the hill. Our group has decided to visit again. Just a wonderful experience. A true blessing when we needed it.
We arrived at this gorgeous cabin that is tucked up, up in the trees. Definitely a steep but fun driveway that brings you up to this gorgeous house. There is more than enough room for 2 familys plus. Large island with large tables to eat and play games on. We played cards at night with a few adult beverages. Bedrooms are great sized. Large rap around deck was awesome. The hummingbirds where cool to watch. We filled there water 4 times in a week. Once counted 15 hummingbirds at once around feeder. Short drive down driveway and right out the driveway and you have a wonderful reservoir to fish at. We enjoyed every minute of our stay.

Our stay at this location started slightly rocky due to our lack of knowledge for the rough roads accessing the property. This was minor and only negative to be found. The property manager was quick to answer all questions and made sure all needs were met. We had issue with washing machine in which the property manager quickly made sure to have the issue looked into and repaired. The views are absolutely stunning and house is very spacious meeting our large parties needs very well. Would highly recommend this property to anyone interested. It is sometimes rough dealing with management of the VRBO properties but I can assure you that was not the case for this listing which made our stay extremely comfortable and left us feeling reassured at all times.
Amazing New Years in the Snow at the Aspen Lake House
We celebrated the New Year at Aspen Lake House, and it was a phenomenal experience. Nestled in a secluded location, the house perfectly balanced privacy and convenience (an hour and a half from Colorado Springs). Our dream was to have a cabin in the woods where the kids could step outside and play in the snow, and Aspen Lake House delivered precisely that. We were greeted by freshly fallen snow that adorned the landscape throughout our stay, creating a picturesque setting for sledding and snow play.
The house was great, boasting a well-equipped kitchen catering to all our culinary needs. Its two master bedrooms were particularly beneficial, offering ample space and comfort for our family and friends to share the dwelling without compromising privacy. The decks were a highlight, offering stunning, awe-inspiring views. However, the decks would really benefit from a built-in heater or a gas fire pit to allow winter guests to enjoy the majestic outdoor scenery even in the chilly winter months. We enjoyed our stay at the Aspen Lake House and would love to come back again in the summer or winter.
Photos simply cannot capture the beauty of the property! If you are looking for secluded, peaceful surroundings, & a quiet place to relax, you will not be disappointed! The Aspen Lakehouse was even better than our family imagined!
The house itself was comfy & well appointed. We prepared & ate every meal there, enjoying the views. We saw deer & hummingbirds! (we refilled the feeder every day)!
Hostess provided information at the house regarding what to see and do in the area, where to go hiking, etc.
A few items to note (we had no issues, just sharing info!): 1. There is no cell service; but WiFi works fine. 2. Woodland Park provides convenient options to pick up essentials such as fresh Papa Murphy’s pizza to bake at the house, or groceries (if you plan to prepare meals at the house). 3. The house isn’t near restaurants or tourist attractions, but those things were not a priority for us! 4. The driveway is steep, but our all-wheel drive vehicle made it fine.
Our 2 daughters (professional musicians) filmed music videos on the property; by the granite wall, on the boulders, on the covered deck balcony, the aspen grove, and the grassy wildflower meadow! If you would like to get a better feel for the surroundings & see the views at The Aspen Lakehouse, search for “The Finestrung Duo”, on YouTube, Facebook, & Instagram & watch their music videos (the videos recorded on the property are tagged as “Colorado”)!
We would be thrilled to stay at The Aspen Lake House again!
The views and serenity of the Aspen Lakehouse is it's best feature. Our family of 9 enjoyed the wrap around deck, watching the wildlife, fishing at the Resevoir, and the peace and quiet. Check-in was a bit of a struggle as the code for the lockbox was only available on the VRBO website and there is zero cell service, so recommend saving that info ahead of time. The house is a good 20 min drive to the closest town/store, so when there was no ice or trays upon arrival, it was a bit inconvenient to drive and get some. We had some issues with not enough toilet paper, bath towels, paper towels, no cleaning supplies for 9 people for 5 nights, so we had to purchase those items. We had some issues like lights not working and the washing machine draining out on the floor. Our biggest issue was the house was not very clean. Cobwebs throughout, dusty decor/shelves/floral, stained carpet, dirty bedding (just the decorative bedding cover/pillow cases), kitchen towels/potholders stained/dirty, used items in bathroom drawers, trash under beds and behind bedside tables, dirty/fingerprints on walls/doors/light switches, hair in sinks/drawers. As vacation rental owners ourself we were not happy. We reached out to Carolyn & Walter and they were very nice about our concerns, had us send pictures, expressed that they live out of state and were not aware of these issues and would have it corrected for the next guests. Still had a great time and made lots of amazing memories!
Once again this is one of the most beautiful places around. The perfect place for the veterans to heal. Thank you so much for having everything ready to go for us. Looking forward to next year.
THE VIEW WAS AMAZING, THE HOUSE WAS VERY NICE, VERY ROOMY, ROAD TO THE HOUSE WAS A LITTLE STEEP, REALLY HARD TO GET USED TO THE ELEVATION BUT OVERALL GREAT STAY AND WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND STAYING HERE.
