Escape to the wild side of the Outer Banks at Splash of Lime, a relaxed Carova beach retreat surrounded by sand, sea and the unforgettable beauty of the 4x4 beaches. Getting here is part of the experience - after the pavement ends in Corolla, your vacation begins with approximately 9 miles of driving along the beach to reach the home.

Once you arrive, settle into a slower pace. Enjoy ocean views from the porch, spend your mornings walking the shoreline in search of shells and other beach treasures, cool off in the private pool, or load up the beach gear and drive right onto the sand to find your perfect spot for the day. And keep your eyes open - Carova’s famous wild horses roam freely throughout the area and are known to wander right past the property.

With four bedrooms, three full baths, plenty of indoor and outdoor gathering space, a private pool and hot tub, Splash of Lime is designed for families and groups who want to spend time together while experiencing one of the most unique beach destinations on the Outer Banks.

Maximum occupancy: 10 guests. Primary booking guest must be age 26 or older.

Where You’ll Stay:

Main Level

The heart of the home is the open-concept great room, where the kitchen, dining and living areas come together for easy vacation living. The fully equipped kitchen makes it simple to prepare everything from a quick beach lunch to a family dinner, while the adjoining living and dining spaces give everyone room to gather.

Two bedrooms are located on this level:

• King bedroom with private full bath and walk-in shower
• Bedroom with two double beds
• Full hallway bath
• Laundry room available for guest use

Second Level

Upstairs are two additional bedrooms:

• King bedroom with private full bath
• Spacious bedroom with one king bed plus two single beds
• Additional full hallway bath

The flexible sleeping arrangements make the home especially comfortable for extended families, multiple couples or families traveling together.

Your Outdoor Space

Some of the best parts of a Carova vacation happen outside.

Step from the kitchen onto the rear deck overlooking the pool — a favorite spot to relax at the end of a beach day and watch the sky change as the sun goes down.

At ground level, you’ll find even more space to unwind and spend time together, including a private pool and hot tub, outdoor shower, charcoal grill, hammocks, hanging daybed, cornhole, picnic table and plenty of room for gathering, relaxing and games.

The private pool is open May through September. Pool heat is available for $300 per stay by advance request.

The Carova 4x4 Experience

Carova is unlike a traditional Outer Banks neighborhood — and that’s exactly why people love it.

There are no paved roads leading to Splash of Lime. The home is reached by driving approximately 9 miles on the beach after the pavement ends in Corolla, so a properly equipped 4WD vehicle is required for your stay.

If someone in your group will not have a 4WD vehicle, we’re happy to share nearby paved parking options so your group can ride out together.

Once you arrive, you’ll be tucked away from the busier parts of the Outer Banks. Grocery stores, restaurants and shopping are approximately a 30-minute drive from the house, so we recommend stocking up before heading onto the beach.

Splash of Lime is located in the northern Outer Banks of North Carolina. Although some maps may show the Virginia state line only a couple of miles away, there is no vehicle access to the property from Virginia. The home must be accessed through Corolla via NC 12 and the 4x4 beach.

For guests flying in, Norfolk International Airport in Virginia is the closest major airport, approximately 108 miles away by car.

Wild Horses May Be Your Neighbors

One of the most memorable parts of staying in Carova is sharing the landscape with the legendary Corolla wild horses. They roam freely throughout the 4x4 beaches and are frequently spotted along the shoreline, dunes, roads and around neighborhood homes — including visits near Splash of Lime.

Seeing them outside while you’re enjoying your morning coffee is the kind of Outer Banks memory that stays with you long after vacation ends.

Dog Friendly

We know beach trips are even better when the dogs can come along. Up to two dogs are welcome with a $250 pet fee per stay.

Wi-Fi, TVs & Connectivity

You may be getting away from it all, but you don’t have to be completely disconnected.

Wi-Fi is available throughout the home, along with a Smart TV in the great room and each bedroom. A Bluetooth speaker is also provided on the main level.

Cell service is generally reliable thanks to the nearby tower at the Carova Fire Station, although service can vary by carrier.
