Our impressions of the property from the site photographs were only enhanced by our viewing of the actual property. As described, it was certainly spacious with very nice and comfortable furnishings. I was only there with my wife (and our dog) but I am sure the property could easily accommodate another 2-3 people without feeling crowded.
Susan, the owner, was there to greet us on our arrival and to show us around the property and it’s workings and also provided us with a good ‘starter pack’ of tea, coffee, milk, bread etc. She was also very informative of the local amenities and places to go including telling us of the ‘Chariots of Fire’ 2018 run which was taking place on the West Sands of St. Andrews the day after our arrival. Whilst she did not know what time this was being held, she promised to find out and did not disappoint by telling us later of the starting time.
She had also gone out of her way to provide the lounge with a fan as (unusually) the weather had been very warm although, as luck would have it, the North Sea haar came in the first two days of our break and meant we did not have to utilise it, but we appreciated the thought.
The property has good grounds and, by parking outside the main gates and keeping these closed, we were able to let our dog wander the gardens without fear of her getting out and, worse, troubling the sheep in the nearby fields.
The location is, as described, rural with, other than the owners property and some farm buildings, no other buildings in the immediate vicinity. However, it is only a short drive into the village of Ceres and the rather larger town of Cupar is only a few miles further on. All of the town/villages of Fife are within relatively easy reach by car.
As regards eating out, Susan had recommended, amongst others, Meldrums Hotel in Ceres which is dog-friendly as they are allowed in the bar and we ate there on a couple of occasions and thoroughly enjoyed the meals provided.
All-in-all, we were very pleased with our stay and would have no hesitation in going back in the future.
