My reservation was for 9/7-9/9. My travel plans didn’t go as planned so I couldn’t check in until the evening of 9/8 and I didn’t expect a refund, I just wanted to check in. The young lady at the front desk was polite as she informed me that my room was no longer available because I didn’t check in on 9/7. As we were discussing the situation and what my options were, the manager on duty was listening to our conversation and decided he would handle the matter. He was not as polite, professional in an AI sort of way. He didn’t try to help the situation, but repeatedly told me that I didn’t check in on the 7th so we gave your room away. Before he butted into the conversation I was inclined to pay the walk in rate for a room for the night, but his callousness of the situation was only making the situation worse. The young lady was attempting turn the situation around and get me a room. The manager acted like a snotty little kid that was given some authority but knows nothing about hospitality. When booking the hotel I don’t recall anything about having a responsibility to check in by a certain time or I would be charged in full and my reservation canceled. I was planning to arrive 9/8 around 7am, get a shower and head to the convention. I got in later than expected so I checked in the evening of 7/8.
I fail to see the issue with this. My room was given away I was charged the full amount and treated as though I had done something wrong.
