"Location was fantastic for a quiet countryside retreat. Nearest place we stopped off was Henley-On-Arden a couple of miles away. The rain was a shocker so didn't see much of the surrounding area. The children loved the two border collies who lived next door. The house itself was great. Super shower. Beds very comfortable, had a great nights sleep. Loved having the wood burner. It's an old farm house so if you're expecting all mod cons and aren't prepared to go back to basics just a little...

10/10 Excellent

"This charming hotel is conveniently located just a few minutes walk crossing the footpath bridge over the River Avon to The Royal Shakespeare Company Theater, Holy Trinity Church, Shakespeare’s birthplace, local restaurants, shopping and things to see. Beautiful area! My room was modest yet very clean & comfortable, the front desk team was courteous, and the breakfast included with my stay was a nice surprise (basic options of coffee/tea/baked goods/yogurt/cereals and fruit) and I enjoyed the delicious egg scramble for an extra cost. The Bear is a cozy downstairs pub adjacent to the lobby and serves traditional English pub food- I had an acceptable serving of fish and chips with mushy peas and a drink before heading out to see a play at The RSC! (There is also a fine dining restaurant, Bistrot Pierre, adjacent to the lobby I did not eat at, however, I heard good reviews in town from others about it). I recommend this lovely, quiet, and well maintained property and plan to come back! The photo of Ferris wheel is the view from my room. Others about town …"

Walton Hall Hotel & Spa by Sunday

2/10 Terrible

"I had booked a weekend for my parents in one of the superior rooms in the main house. When they checked in they were informed of where to park outside the main house. As we drove round there were a variety of barriers preventing us from parking, we were then informed that we would not be allowed to park as there was a wedding happening the following day. We were informed to park a distance from the main house and my parents to walk further (disabled parking was unavailable). My father, who struggles to walk and is 82 was left expected to walk much further than he was cable of. The folllowing evening when I dropped them back at the hotel only to find out that they were directly over the wedding evening, and could not sleep because of the noise. They were moved rooms but this added to a later than they were usual too late night. At no point were we informed that there was a wedding event, They were due to leave the following day at 0630 to travel back to Ellesmere Port to miss traffic. My father after this ordeal slept the rest of the afternoon (which is unlike him). I feel the whole experience has been completely ruined and the communication and sympathy and understanding very lacking. At this stage, I would not recommend. We expect a call to discuss from the venue and hope their reaction will amend our extreme disappointment."

Macdonald Alveston Manor Hotel & Spa

"Unfortunately the air conditioning was broken and there was no one on site to take a look at it. As there was a fan in the room, we assume the air con wasn’t working. We had a good welcome at reception. We were less impressed by there being no bar snacks/crisps at the bar on a Saturday night. The service was slow but they did apologise. The food in the dining room was very average. The pool was great. For the £214 we paid for the night (bedroom only) and it being part of the MacDonald group, we did expect better. It was a very convenient location."

"The hotel is centrally located and convenient. The furnishings are of high quality and the garden is delightful. The staff are very pleasant. However, we suffered from a lot of noise from fellow guests walking around and going up and down the stairs at all hours, the hanging space was pitiful (space for four hangers and too low for my dresses), our tissue box had about four tissues in it, and there was insufficient room for our things due to all the “amenities” crammed into our tiny room (ironing board, suitcase stand, flannels, a fan, bathrobes) The bar is also super expensive - I ordered two large glasses of Malbec and a small bowl of nuts and the bill was £45! The car park is a faff as you have to pay £15 per day by joining the hotel wifi, scanning a QR code, going to a website and entering your details. Many of the customers were older and struggled with this at check in."

Clarion Hotel Charlecote Pheasant

8/10 Good

"Very dark road, entrance a bit concealed, drove in the wrong gate first. We arrived REALLY late due to works on the M40, but bless them, the bar staff allowed us a cheeky double to put on the room. Windows opened to cool the room and there was a fan in the wardrobe, it seemed but the air con didn't work in Room 45 (we were on the ground floor) which was frustrating in this week's heatwave and the decor was quite dated, however the double bed was comfy and the room was clean and a great size. The metal bunk bed frame squeaked like mad, but were comfy too, our kids said. Delicious, large buffet of breakfast choices - Full English fry up (fried eggs on request), breads, pastries, cereals, fruit and yoghurt. Plenty of juices and hot drink choices. Staff very friendly and helpful, happy to recommend - nice and easy to get to Warwick castle the next day. Would stay again, but would prefer a room with air con."
