"The house was nice, the swimming pool was a nice extra. rooms are a bit small for 6 persons, if there is bad weather, like we had a few days, you can get cramped up inside. Some of the doors/rooms could use some improvement. for example, the door to the attic could not be closed. Like other reviews we saw that cleaning could also be a bit better in some places. the barbeque outside was not clean at all for example. "The Royal Snail is a great boutique hotel on the outskirts of town but very walkable. Free parking outside the property. Rooms were spacious and all staff were happy to help. Breakfast was good - only cold buffet on display however hot items could be made on request which was great as they were fresh! I really appreciated the omelette and bacon which was cooked for me! Restaurant was lovely with great food. It was busy with few staff however we never felt like we were neglected and they made sure we had everything we needed. Good selection of wines and specialist gin with many tonic options. The spa is quite pricey but beautiful, very small but a high standard - treatments need to be booked in advance as external staff cons to do these. The gym is small and functional (TV was missing from wall when we were there). The pool is really tiny - it’s a plunge pool more for decoration - would be great to have some big fish in it as not really a functional pool! The bedrooms are nice with the best mini bar I’ve had for years! Huge super king bed. Beware that some bedrooms have only a glass screen between the bedroom and bathroom with no privacy screen! Ours had a separate bathroom which was fine (6th floor). The TV really needs upgraded in the room - specified SMART TV but wasn’t - usually freebies channels only, no internet to cast devices or watch Netflix etc. I would highly recommend this hotel and definitely return! "

"We booked a family room for the third week in July. Receptionist welcoming and spoke English. Room was of a good size, with bunk beds over the main double bed for our family. A couple of niggles though: The lighting system is confusing. There are limited instructions as to how to turn them off, though this is in German and French and not English. If you are reading this and having the same problem, you need to click the left hand switch twice to turn them off and have the room and darkness, otherwise every time you turn one light off, another one will turn on in the room. It took a call to the concierge to find this out (I suspect he was a little annoyed, as he told me twice that the instructions were on the wall - maybe expecting Facebook, French or German). Though the room was clean, the carpet needs washing, as there was an order of stinky feet to it. The room was also very hot, even with a ceiling fan, so you may want to bring a fan of your own to keep cool during the night."
