Property Is Under Reconstruction and Never Should Have Been Offered
Photos of the property and its description showed a beautiful condo on the beach with great ocean views. There was no mention of the building still being under reconstruction from last Fall's hurricanes. After we rented and paid in full, we were told that the pool area and lanai were not available due to construction. We were OK with this. Due to weather delays with our flight, we did not arrive at the condo until 1:00 am. The inside of the condo itself was very nice. However, due to the later hour we immediately went to bed. We awoke at 7:30 AM to the sound of jackhammers and construction worker voices on the balcony outside of our bedroom door. When we opened the curtains we found a 4 foot high wall of plywood and significant work underway. We immediately notified the property manager that it was uninhabitable, and of our intention to vacate the property. We were out by 9:30 AM. She agreed to give us a full refund minus the 250. cleaning fee, She actually approved a much lower amount, and VRBO refused to stand behind us. Despite the fact that they provided the means for us to rent an uninhabitable property. Let this be a lesson to other future VRBO renters, if there is a dispute between the property owner and the renters, VRBO will stand firmly behind the property owner and leave the renter hanging. You have no recourse except to accept whatever the property manager gives you. We are out a significant amount of money.
