About this property

Hot Tub + Arcade + Grill + Firepit | Creekside Yard | The Rustic Cottage

  • Horse Branch Creek runs right through the property, and that sound — water moving over rock, steady and unhurried — is the first thing you notice at The Rustic Cottage. It sets the tone for everything that follows. This is a mountain home that gets the balance right: the warmth and character you come to the Smokies for, paired with an interior that's been properly thought through.

Inside, stone and rustic wood do the heavy lifting on atmosphere, softened by clean finishes and furnishings that feel considered rather than themed. There are two separate living areas, each with its own flat-screen TV, which turns out to be the detail groups appreciate most — nobody's negotiating over the remote. Between them sit a pool table, an arcade game, and a stack of board games that tend to pull the whole house in after dinner. The kitchen brings a jolt of color with its vibrant blue cabinetry and comes fully equipped for real cooking, and the large dining table seats everyone at once for the kind of long, slow meal a mountain trip is for.

Four bedrooms sleep ten. The primary is anchored by a king, the second and third each hold a queen, and the fourth is set up with two twin bunks — the room the kids will claim before the bags are unpacked. Two full bathrooms keep the morning moving.

Outside is where the property really distinguishes itself. The back deck holds a grill, a hot tub, and a seating area angled toward the trees, with the creek running below. The yard is wide and open, room enough for a game of catch or a lazy afternoon in a camp chair, and the fire pit takes over once the light goes — marshmallows, long conversations, and a sky with actual stars in it.

You're on Gatlinburg's east side, off East Parkway — a quieter pocket than the Parkway strip and roughly ten minutes from the middle of it. It's a good trade: close enough to spend a full day downtown, far enough out that the evening actually feels like the mountains. The Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community starts about a mile up Glades Road, an eight-mile loop of working studios where potters, woodcarvers, weavers, and leatherworkers sell out of their own shops — the most distinctive thing to do in Gatlinburg, and the one most visitors drive straight past. Timbers Log Cabin Restaurant is out that way too, a small breakfast-and-lunch spot worth the stop. A Food City sits about half a mile down East Parkway, which matters more than it sounds for a house that sleeps ten and has a kitchen worth using.

Downtown fills in the rest. Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies sits right on the Parkway, the Gatlinburg SkyPark runs a chairlift up to a suspension bridge with a glass floor panel in the middle, and Anakeesta's gondola opens onto treetop walkways, gardens, and a mountain coaster. Hillbilly Golf has been sending players down the mountainside by tram for decades, and the Space Needle's observation deck is worth timing for sunset. For the national park you have two doors: Sugarlands and the Newfound Gap road about fifteen minutes southwest, or the Greenbrier entrance five miles east — quieter, less trafficked, and the way to Porters Creek and Ramsey Cascades.

By the time you're back on the deck with the creek running and the fire going, town feels a good deal further away than the drive suggests.

We stayed here with two families of 5 and really enjoyed our time. Nice outdoor space for the kids to run around and fun games indoors as well. Grill and hot tub were nice perks as well.

Get away

I gave this place 3 stars just because it looks nice on the pictures but in real life it had a lot things going on. Doors don't close properly. Microwave is making loud noise. You can see how bad wooden work done inside the house. Bags and spiders crawling inside. Also the person we talked to told us that they provide cooking pods and pans. There were two fry pans that are really small and two small pots. There were few lids for bigger pots but we couldn't find them nowhere. What I'm saying place is for 10 sleep in people but cooking pots are for family of 4 maybe. That was a big issue for us. Neighbors ' doogs were barking all the time. It was annoying. Beds were clean. It was ok. We love how it was close to everything we needed.
