"This is a beautiful old hotel property. It has great bones and the rooms have been updated and modernized nicely. That said, there are some very quirky aspects to the property. Firstly, there is no reception - just an automated machine that provides a key card. This means that there is no one to ask about parking, amenities etc. The second thing is that no one speaks English at all. The cleaning staff was very sweet but could not speak a word. We had to use Google Translate for all...

"Top Aufenthalt hier am WE. Die direkte Absprache mit Tanya hat super geklappt. Die Ferienwohnung ist sehr sauber und gemütlich. Klasse Kaffee! Einzig, die weiche Matratze im Doppelbett war nicht so mein Fall. Dafür hat sich unsere Tochter über die hergerichtete Schlafcouch sehr gefreut. Parkplatz vor dem Haus auch kein Problem. "The Mercure Hotel in Gera was good business and comuter hotel. The surroundings were a bit eerie because a lot the buildings gave off a cold and industrial feel that were remnants from the Soviet Era. The bathtub in my room was a bit high and slipped and hurt myself get out of the high bathtub. The parking was also tricky because the door to the faciity was very quick. The consierges were frendlier and provided me with an iron an ironing board to get prepared for two business meeting in the Gera and Thurigen area later that day."
