About this property

A Little Bit of Heaven in Colorado - Lakeside lodge with fishing, great location

  • Moose Tracks Manor is a charming lakefront vacation home near the historic town of Grand Lake, CO, and near the headwaters of the Colorado River.

Moose Tracks Manor is located on secluded Sun Valley Lake, a private 22-acre lake nestled between Rocky Mountain National Park and Arapahoe National Forest. It sleeps 9 comfortably in 3 bedrooms with two bathrooms (one with a steam shower). The home was recently built new, with a mountain modern interior. Outdoors you have a lakeside patio, a large porch with a BBQ, a canoe, pedal boat and rowboat – all for our guests to use.

Moose Tracks Manor offers a gourmet, fully appointed kitchen, 3 bedrooms (two queens plus a bunk room with three long twins and one queen size mattress), 2 baths, an open dining room, a loft, and a great room that boasts 27-foot ceilings and a stone fireplace. The back porch overlooks a pristine private lake and wide mountain views. Included: internet, TV, washer & dryer, foosball table, gas BBQ, picnic area, towels, bed linens and paper goods.

A fishing license is not required on Sun Valley Lake, which is stocked with trout every spring. Enjoy the pedal boat, rowboat and canoe provided with the cabin. Hike, bike, ATV and snowmobile all from your front door. You are walking distance to both the National Forest and the Colorado River Headwaters for some great fly-fishing. Great whitewater rafting is also within driving distance. Winding River resort is walking distance from the cabin and provides horseback riding and outdoor cowboy breakfasts and dinners.

Bring your binoculars for some of the best wildlife viewing in the country. Sun Valley Lake is one of the best spots to see moose in Colorado. They are common in the mornings and evenings all year round.

This is a great location for snowmobiling whether you are renting or bringing your own sleds. Plenty of parking for trucks and trailers allows you to snowmobile right from your front door to the trailhead for Arapahoe National Forest or into the town of Grand Lake. Within a short walk is a large, well equipped snowmobile rental business, On the Trail Rentals, for those who prefer to rent.

Great Get Away Home

We live in Denver and like the option of being able to go somewhere in mountains and we used to have a place we could use but the home was sold so we have been looking for a new place to escape to throughout the year and I think we have found it! This place is great for small groups of friends and/or families and with it being right on the water, it couldn't be a better place to stay. It's nice and quiet but still close enough to drive into town as well. My only complaint would probably be the wi-fi service. Some of us had no cell service the entire time but didn't want to have to pay extra for their service so if you're staying for an extended length of time be sure to budget accordingly or have your hotspot ready to be used on your phone. We would highly recommend this place and we will definitely be returning again soon!

A Pioneer Family Reunion!!!

Wow,if I could give it 10 stars I would!!! The description of Moose Tracks Manor is truly spot on! We rented this beautiful home for an impromptu family reunion that turned out to be a trip of a lifetime for us all. Our family came in from Arizona and the rest of the clan all live in Colorado which made it perfect because of the central location of the cabin. The activities on the lake were more than we could have hoped!!! We caught numerous monster Rainbows with the largest being almost 23" and pushing 5 pounds!!! The fishing in Sun Valley Lake is truly worth the trip from anywhere. The cabin was clean and stocked with everything you could possibly need. The kitchen was plenty big enough for preparing any meal you would want. We all had plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the cabin in our own ways. We saw Daddy,Mama and baby Moose almost everyday and the Elk were bugling every night! There is the most adorable family of Otters that live on the lake and were more than fun to watch and listen too. I would definitely recommend renting an atv from O.T.T.R. which is practically connected to the property, and seeing the area that is only accessible by the smaller vehicles is the way to go!!! Thank you Rod and Jill for opening up this little piece of heaven for all to enjoy and God willing we will be back again!! But for longer this time...

ABSOLUTELY PERFECT !!!

We join the other 5-star reviewers in "singing the praises" of Moose Tracks Manor, aka "A Little Bit of Heaven!" The property is aptly named in both respects - we saw moose stroll through and hang out at the property numerous times daily, and barely spent any time indoors, as the setting on the lake was so peaceful and relaxing and the scenery breathtaking. We spent hours just watching the squirrels, chipmunks, ducks, geese, osprey, finches, hummingbirds, and, of course, the moose. The beautiful private lake is stocked with trout, and just watching them jump and twist and flop back into the water was entertaining. The Manor is a wildlife photographer's delight, but there are also many other things to do - there is something for everyone of every age to enjoy. Fishing, canoeing, walks through the woods, a short jaunt to On the Trails ATV Rentals, and just a few minutes from Rocky Mountain National Park entrance or in to the town of Grand Lake. The huge covered lakeside porch allows one to sit outside even during a brief passing afternoon shower, and the separate "party deck," picnic table, lakeside swing, and fire pit provide additional wonderful gathering places. The log home was very spacious and included every possible amenity to make one's stay comfortable. The massive vaulted ceiling in the great room is truly impressive, and it is fun to just peer down from the sprawling loft above. Owners Rod and Jill go above and beyond at accommodating their guests, and the reservation process was very professional, efficient, and flawless. Our damage deposit had already been refunded by the time we returned home, barely 24 hours after our departure from the cabin. We suggest you take time to read the excellent Renter's Guide they provide, as it gives a vast amount of information about your stay at Moose Tracks. We are pleased that, in such an elegant home, they are still pet-friendly, so we were allowed to bring our little 5-pound Yorkie. Whether you're a couple seeking a quiet, relaxing stay, or an active family / group seeking fun on the waterfront, this place is perfect. It would be well suited for couples of any age, family gatherings, a girls' getaway, a guys' fishing retreat - as we said, there is definitely something for everyone! Grand Lake is our favorite area when we want to escape city life for a while - and we've now found the "Perfect Spot" we'd been looking for - Moose Tracks Manor! Thanks to Rod & Jill, we'll definitely be back.

Amazing home in the Rockies

Rod's home on a private lake on the border of the Rocky Mountain National Park was a dream come true. The home is very well laid out. The kitchen has everything needed to prepare family meals and enjoy the process while you're at it. The Park information center is a couple miles away, as well as hiking right from the cabin door into the National Forest. We would recommend this home!

Shallow lake

Lake was not what I expected. The growth in the lake was alot and water appeared to be from 3 ft. to 6 ft. Didnt see any trout . I think this is basically a bass lake. The view was outstanding and it was very quiet.

Great location - Kids called it their best family vacation

Location is great, both being on the Lake and near plenty to do. With a family of 9 with 7 children spanning in age from 20 down to 5 years old, the property location offered multiple outdoor events for all ages. At times the family split up given age spans and enjoyed their respective activities...hiking RMNP, ATV, horseback, Grand Lake park playground, canoeing, fishing, pontoon boat rentals, sport clay shooting southwest at Byer's Canyon. Kitchen and sleeping accommodations were solid. Kids did not want to head back to the real world.

Great Getaway

We stayed a this wonderful cabin for a long weekend. We had a fabulous time with our family. Because of Covid 19, we ate all of our meals in and only went into town once to go out on Grand Lake on a pontoon boat. The house is situated on a beautiful private lake with a row boat and canoe to use. It is so peaceful there. We were lucky to see a moose every day of our stay. We ventured into Rocky Mountain National Park two days to do some exploring. The house is comfortable and well-stocked. We will definitely be making a return trip!

Fantastic Week Away

We arrived in the afternoon and were only at the property 10 minutes when a mother moose and her baby walked right by the house. We enjoyed watching the moose, canoeing on the lake and just relaxing in the peace and quiet. The cabin is in a great location. The house was well stocked with everything you would need. We will be back for sure.

Private Lakehouse - Awesome Family Vacation

This was our second time at Moose Tracks Manor and again, it did not disappoint. We came with our three kids and this time each brought a friend. This place is all about location. It is immediately adjacent to RMNP, neighbors a camping resort with horseback riding, ATV rentals in Arapahoe National Forest, and mountain biking. We hiked, biked, and rode horses all within a 3-5 mile radius. The town of Grand Lake is very close. Due to COVID-19 it was so nice to have the close activities plus the amenities of the house, including a private dock on a private lake, a canoe and rowboat, a fire pit for s’mores, and some great trout fishing from dawn to dusk. Gorgeous Mountain View from the lake. Every day we saw moose in the back yard, including a full grown bull, an adolescent bull, two full grown cows, and a baby moose. Same thing happened last time! The neighbors seem to have a salt lick. We never felt in danger, kept our distance and got some great pics. Grand lake offered nice souvenir shopping, quality ice cream, putt putt and a really nice go cart track. The Grand Lake repertory theater was closed due to COVID but we really enjoyed a show there during our last visit and highly recommend it. The house itself is Colorado style with a log cabin feel and fireplace. We had family game nights or family movie nights each night of our stay. The kitchen was ample for our needs. Communication with the owner was timely and helpful. Definitely recommend! We will certainly be back. This is a great place for a summer family vacation in the mountains to escape the summer heat and for family bonding.

Secluded cozy cabin

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Moose Tracks Manor. The home was well equipped with everything we needed. The fireplace was warm and the surrounding property was scenic and beautiful. Our only disappointment was that the bathrooms were dated and a bit cramped. Otherwise, everything was amazing.

Incredible Stay!

We have stayed at many homes during our Colorado visits and this house was by far our favorite. The location within Rocky Mountain National Forest was by far the most relaxing and comfortable, right on a private lake, and gave us the quiet getaway we needed after a recent loss in our family. The house was well stocked with everything we needed and we definitely appreciated the covered carport that kept us from having to dig out the car after every snowy day. The owner was extremely helpful, checking in on us during our stay, and even sending us a plow driver to make sure we made it out when an intense snow storm hit as we were leaving. He even offered the cabin in the event the pass closed before we got out. We will definitely be making this home a yearly destination. Loved it.
