"This was our 3rd visit to Torfhaus Resort Hotel. It is our favorite. The location in the Harz Mountains is serene, but also full of possibilities for hiking, biking, and quick travel to picturesque towns. The houses/cabins at the resort are maintained in excellent condition. There is plenty of room for a family. We enjoy sitting on the deck with a meal and looking at the beautiful views of the forest. "Booked a room. Hotels.com messed up but after the matter was resolved by them it turned out the hotel did not have the room we had booked. Very unhelpful and disinterested staff. Had to find another room at 11pm which was not easy!"

"Clean, spacious room with amazing view up the street and Werningerode Schloss so very close upon the hill. V good breakfast and a lovely small sauna you can reserve a time for private use. We appreciated a break from the larger city hotels in Hamburg and Berlin to stay in a small cozy bnb style environment. You can step right out the door to shopping and food. The staff was v sweet and we wished we had more time here. Highly recommend! "

"I was a bit disappointed with the check in procedure - especially that I had to re-park my car. (while another car on a similar parking place remained...) The staff was not bad - friendly in the typical German manner. That was ok for me but my friends felt a bit mistreated. "

"Hotel was fine, but not a great family hotel. We have three kids under 8. Patrons (October) were mostly older German adults. The room was not in great shape. The refrigerator was apparently being defrosted and was leaking all over the floor (with towels). Our room led to what seemed to be an abandoned hallway, but we couldn't lock the door from the inside. That being said, we loved our little hike on the hillside immediately next to the hotel. It was a fine overnight, but had we stayed...
