About this property
Owl's Nest: Sunlit South Shore Lakefront Home | Stairs Down to Lakeshore
Tucked into the trees on Wisconsin's Bark Point, Owl's Nest is a bright, modern lakefront home where walls of windows frame the moods of Lake Superior. This 3-bedroom, 2.5-bath retreat sleeps up to six, pairing a soaring wood-beamed great room and full island kitchen with a cozy lower-level family room and a private stairwell down to your own rocky shoreline. Light a fire, watch the freighters drift past, and let the biggest freshwater lake on Earth set the pace.
We're Bark Point Ventures — a local team that lives and works right here on the South Shore, and we manage Owl's Nest year-round. We keep things low-key and contactless by default, but we're always a quick message or call away if you need anything during your stay. The moment you book, you'll get a link to our digital guidebook with directions, check-in details, and our favorite local recommendations; a printed guidebook is waiting for you at the home, too.
Owl's Nest is on the Bark Point peninsula in Herbster, in the heart of Wisconsin's Lake Superior South Shore — a stretch of Bayfield County known for dark skies, empty beaches, and some of the most beautiful freshwater coastline in the country.
A few minutes up the road, the tiny harbor town of Cornucopia ("Corny") is Wisconsin's northernmost community, with a sand beach, a marina, galleries, and great sunsets. Just beyond, Meyers Beach is the launch point for the famous Lake Superior sea caves at the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore — stunning by kayak in summer and, in a hard freeze, walkable as ice caves. Lost Creek Falls, agate-strewn beaches, world-class lake fishing, and miles of quiet hiking and paddling are all close by.
Head the other direction and you'll reach the postcard town of Bayfield, gateway to the Apostle Islands ferry, orchards, and the festival scene. Closer to home, swing by Wags & Wine in Herbster — our own dog-friendly wine shop — for a pour and a wander.
Spring through fall brings warblers, wildflowers, and brilliant autumn color; winter brings snowshoeing, solitude, and the chance to catch the Northern Lights right from the deck. It's rural, it's real, and it's gloriously unhurried.
You'll have the entire home and the surrounding property to yourself — the deck, patio, the lake stairwell, and the fire pit included. Check-in is contactless and available via a self-service lockbox, so you can arrive on your own schedule. Free parking is right on site.
Owl's Nest sits high on the Bark Point peninsula, the quiet finger of land between Herbster and Cornucopia where Lake Superior wraps around three sides. It's the kind of place that earns its name: perched in the trees, big and bright up top, with the whole lake laid out below.
The great room. The heart of the home is an open, light-flooded living space under a vaulted tongue-and-groove wood ceiling. Two-story walls of windows pull Lake Superior right into the room — sink into the sofa or one of the sheepskin-draped recliners and watch the water change color all afternoon. There's an indoor gas fireplace for cool evenings and an open flow straight into the kitchen and dining area.
The kitchen. A full kitchen built for real cooking: generous island with seating, stainless appliances, oven and stove, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and a well-stocked set of cookware, dishes, and wine glasses. Gather around the dining table or pull up a stool at the island with your laptop and the lake in view.
Three bedrooms. Three comfortable bedrooms, each with big windows framing forest or water. Crisp linens, extra pillows and blankets, room-darkening shades, ceiling fans, wardrobes and hangers. The primary bedroom (with en suite full bath) lies just off the living room and has a king bed, split unit A/C, ceiling fan, and the "to die for" feature: two-story set of windows with lake views. Though, if you're not a morning person, remote controlled blinds will keep those views hidden until you're ready for sunlight. The ground floor level has the secondary bedrooms, each with a queen bed, comfy linens, as well as lovely lake views. You'll find another full bath on this level.
Lower-level family room. A spacious walk-out lower level adds a second living area with another gas fireplace and easy access to the yard — perfect for kids, games, a movie night, or spreading out as a group.
Outside. This is where Owl's Nest shines. The stunning second floor deck and a long covered porch wrap the home with Adirondack chairs and outdoor seating, all angled toward the lake. There's a fire pit for evenings, a barbecue grill with utensils, outdoor lighting, and plenty of green space for the kids (or kids at heart) to play. A private wooded stairwell leads down through the trees to your own stretch of rugged Lake Superior shoreline — ideal for agate hunting, skipping stones, or simply listening to the waves.
Family-ready. Traveling with little ones? We've got a pack-n-play travel crib and a baby high chair ready to go.
A car is recommended — this is peaceful, rural country and the best of the South Shore is meant to be explored at your own pace. From Owl's Nest it's roughly 10 minutes to Cornucopia, about 15 minutes to the Meyers Beach sea caves, and around 25 minutes to Bayfield. Duluth/Superior and their airport are about 1 hour west. (Drive times approximate — fine-tune with your local knowledge.)
Sleeps up to 6 across 3 bedrooms No pets, please. Self check-in via lockbox, available any time after our 4pm check in time. Fast WiFi (250 Mbps) and a laptop-friendly setup make this a comfortable remote-work base. Great for families and couples; baby gear (pack-n-play and high chair) is provided. Lake Superior is wild and cold, and the shoreline here is natural and rocky — please keep an eye on children and pets near the water & drop off at the edge of the property. House rules & check-out instructions are in both the printed in-home guidebook and your digital guidebook link.
