The MAUNA LOA SHORES is right on the ocean in HILO; an exceptional town with plenty to do here on the east side of our beautiful island. The Beach Park next door where you can swim with sea turtles is a once in a life experience. My 45 years as a resident and 42 years as a Realtor here will insure you know where to go and what to do to make it the perfect stay.

Our piece of paradise awaits your stay. 1brm 1bth with queen size bed in brm. Full Kitchen, wifi, this condo has it all. EVEN smart TV with Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc. BUT the ultimate feature is Carlsmith Beach Park right next door is the best for swimming and snorkeling. Almost always sea turtles. EZ access to ocean, protected reef. Beautiful lawn with huge trees, Tide pools. Truly one of the finer spots on any of the Islands.

Hilo Town is a very special place. Not touristy like Honolulu, Maui and such, a real old Hawaii charm. Right now lava is flowing into the ocean, a sight to behold. Lava tours can be had. You will come back again and again.

Starting Jan 1, 2022 our County has added an additional 3% tax due to the rising costs associated with keeping our County functioning properly.  As you know, this has been a stressful fee year for our County due to the lost revenue from the Volcano and now the Pandemic, so our County needs this to survive and provide needed services.  Our contract states that the tax is based in the taxes when your visit actually comes, so if you are arriving after Jan 1,  We are adding this additional 3% on your rent.  Mahalo for your understanding.

Beautiful

This property is a hidden gem. You have everything that you need all in one place. It’s also private and close to a very nice beach. My husband and I greatly enjoyed our vacation here and we would definitely come back.

Perfect place for us!!! We could walk right down to beautiful carlsmith beach for swimming and snorkeling, short drive to Richardson bay for black sand beach , swimming & snorkeling. Everything is close by, great museums in Hilo. Beautiful place to stay with everything we needed, even chairs to take to the beach. The floors are beautiful. Great communication with the host. We would have loved to stay longer.

Great Place

Very nice condo and location is great. You can walk out the back and you are at Carl Smith beach park. Condo looks exactly like pictures. Host provided lots of information about places to eat and visit.

Nice location

We enjoyed our stay in Hilo. The view is amazing and being able to just walk to the beach/lagoon and see turtles was so fun. I liked the location just a bit out of town, but easy to drive everywhere. Even though Maunaloa Shores is on a main road, our unit was quiet. The patio and bedroom windows are on the ocean side. Would stay here again.

Perfect condo for a couple!

This was a great stay in Hilo. We were close to fun things and the cove was beautiful. The condo had everything we needed plus more. We will be back again.

Clean condo

The place was clean & check in was easy. You have to drive through an industrial neighborhood in order to get to the condo which isnt that nice. But, once you are there the beach and condonis very nice

Great Stay!

We really enjoyed our stay in Hilo. It's very laid back and close to major tourist sites (volcanos, Mauna Kea, Akaka Falls, Big Island Candies, etc.) The condo was a perfect location. We enjoyed swimming in the the Carlsmith pools and jogging in the area every day. The condo was well stocked, but not cluttered. We appreciated that it had plenty of room for our items and was very clean.

This is an attractive, up-to-date condo with an open floor plan, comfortable bed and lovely water view from the main room, bedroom and lanai.. Terry, the property manager is very accessible and responsive. The kitchen and linen closet are well stocked. We snorkeled every day and had a fun, relaxing time.

Wow the pictures don’t lie. Right in the cove, fishes turtles and swimming out the back door. Trails to another cove as well. Perfect location, the condo was clean, organized and had everything we could want to adventure around. Coming back!

LOVELY VIEW, FUN PLACE TO STAY

Ever seen a Sea Turtle? This was a first for me, but what a delight the turtles were. The condo was tastefully decorated, the bed was comfortable, and the park is beautiful. Also, there was an interesting collection of books in the condo, and the Association has a library. Mahalo.

Fantastic base for exploring the Hilo area

The owners have done a complete upgrade of this condo and while the building itself is aging, the unit was clean, quite and felt safe. The bed was comfy and wonderful to wake to the sound of the surf. You could simply stay at the location and enjoy the lagoon for snorkelling or as we did, explore the whole east and south island coast line including the volcano. I noted signs that the building was smoke free however we got the occasional whiff from smokers below us - just open the kitchen window and the breeze takes it away...

Perfect location for a quiet stay at Hilo

I am going to start with the positives first. The location is perfect for quiet evenings after a day of sightseeing around the island. The neighborhood is not touristy and busy like Kona. The condo is about 40 minutes from Volcanoes National Park. The condo has a beautiful view of Carlsmith Beach Park from the balcony and a very short walk to the water. There are ladders to the water and the water was shallow. We were able to see schools of fish and several turtles in the water at dusk. The unit itself was very comfortable and inviting. The unit had everything we needed for a family stay with all kitchen gadgets, sundry items (sunblock, beach towels, sewing kit, umbrellas), and sports equipment (pool noodles, snorkels, fins, bodyboards, etc.). We saved some money by not having to rent snorkeling equipment, buying umbrellas, and by making some meals at home. The building also has a pool for swimming laps. The Seaside Restaurant across the street served some pretty good seafood. Terry (the property manager) responded quickly to inquiries and had a binder at the entry way with all sorts of useful information and recommendations. I only had two items that were minor issues. One needs to sign a rental agreement for a stay in the unit and the elevator keys were a bit sticky and took a few minutes of trying to make them work. However, if one doesn’t mind either of those things, the stay is well worth it. I would stay here again if I come back to Hilo.

Very well stocked

Let me say that I have never seen a condo as well stock as this one. From binoculars to chair to boogle boards, books, games, dishes, dishwasher, paper towels, toilet paper, sunscreen, shampoo, bug spray and the list goes on. I'm sure some of this "appeared" after each guest but Terry has thought of everything. The decor is very modern with full size stainless appliances. The keys stick a bit in the elevator but a little wiggling will do the trick....I suspect it is the lock, not the keys. Be careful when you close the condo door when leaving as you may lose some skin off your hand.There is molding installed around the door which I assume is to prevent anyone from easily breaking in (nice touch) but just be warned that it reduces hand clearance especially for my clumsy hands. I would have given this a five star except for the fact that there was no A/C. There are lots of ceiling and standup fans but that does nothing to eliminate the moisture in the condo. It wasn't musty at all but the pillows were damp to the touch. Even a dehumidifier would have been a help. Also expect rain, during our 5 day stay we had 5 days of constant rain (at least 1" per day) but it is the rainy side of the island.

Hilo Condo

Overall we were very happy with our stay at the condo. The unit itself is very clean, nicely updated and has a great view of the bay/ocean. The only downside is the age of the actual condo building, looks quite outdated, although it was generally clean and seemed to be decently maintained (I saw a maintenance worker cleaning the walk ways every day with a hose to remove leaves and debris etc). The worst part of the building unfortunately is the pool. It really needs a facelift. In the three nights we were there I only saw one person use the pool for a very brief period of time. This isn’t too much of an issue though because the bay that is right outside of the condo is perfect for swimming!! The only reason we were really looking forward to the pool is that we have a six month old baby that I felt more comfortable taking in a pool rather than the ocean. The bay is very cool, within steps of my first time in the bay I encountered a sea turtle. They frequent that spot all the time. Saw multiple turtles every day there! The bay is fed by natural springs so it has spots where the water is very cold, but if you just swim another one to two feet it’s usually back to being the amazingly warm Hawaiian ocean that we are use to. This isn’t the best snorkeling spot (there are definitely better spots on the island), but it’s really good for beginners or someone looking for an easy-going spot to see some ocean fish. The condo itself is located about a 7 minute drive from most of the places to find food. I thought that was nice and close, enough so that you aren’t right in the town, but you will require a car if you would like to eat out at the restaurants. Overall I would recommend staying here!! Once you get past the outdated building the unit itself is much nicer than the first impression of the building.

We recently stayed in Mauna Loa Shores for 4 nights. The condo was clean and nicely furnished with basic kitchen amenities. Our unit also provided beach chairs, beach towels, boogie boards, and a selection of snorkel equipment. The location is excellent as it is situated right next to Carlsmith Beach Park. It has a beautiful balcony view of the beach park and nature area directly behind the condos. In addition, there is a very good restaurant, The Seaside Restaurant, within a short walk. Assigned parking spaces are provided. The pool area is nice. The condo is located several miles from downtown Hilo which we liked since downtown Hilo seemed pretty congested most of the time. We would definitely stay at Mauna Loa Shores again.

First Trip to Hilo

Location was fantastic. Beach was so beautiful and we loved being able to fall asleep to the sound of the waves. Easy drive into downtown Hilo. Property itself was as advertised and had everything we needed. The building is a bit run down, but the actual unit was nicely done. Property manager was very responsive.

Great location near beautiful Hilo

The condo was very clean, quiet, and well stocked with everything we needed for a great stay. The location was perfect--next to beautiful Carlsmith Beach Park and an easy drive to downtown Hilo, groceries, shopping, and Volcano National Park. We appreciated the elevator to the condo and our assigned free parking spot when we returned from sightseeing each day. We enjoyed a beautiful, sunny week visiting the Hilo Farmers Market, the Tsunami Museum, the Lyman House and Museum, and eating at the best restaurants on the big island. Can't wait to return!

Why not Enjoy Beautiful views while visiting Hilo

We enjoyed looking out at the lagoon and ocean from the lanai and bedroom windows all times of the day. We felt at home and even pampered. Thanks for the wonderful hospitality. We would enjoy staying here again if we return to Hilo.
