Lovely hosts. The dinner is a must-try—it’s omakase, prepared by the hosts themselves, and it’s the best sushi I’ve had in a long time. The breakfast is also wonderful.
After dinner, I strongly recommend walking to Itsukushima Shrine and the torii gate, which are just a few minutes away. Once all the tourists have left, you can enjoy the quiet island and the beautiful views all to yourself.
Wonderful apartment in a traditional house with two bedrooms and a bathroom, very centrally located in Miyajima. A delicious dinner prepared fresh by the very kind owner and an equally delicious breakfast are included. A wonderful experience that we recommend to anyone wanting to spend a night on this beautiful island.
This was an amazing experience for our family of 4. The traditional beds to 15 course sushi dinner to warm hospitality to hearty breakfast all exceeded my expectations. The host went out of his way to show us around to some beautiful night time photo spots after dinner and let us keep our luggage before and after check in/out times. Would recommmend to absolutely anyone except if you have mobility issues as the store to the main rooms were quite step.
A nice little guesthouse if you are looking for an authentic stay in a beautiful location. We were treated to an amazing dinner with a wonderful host and will be recommending this experience to everyone we meet.
Wonderful place to stay for a true Japanese experience. The location in town is close to all major sites, but also very quiet.
We had an added surprise of being able to watch fireworks from a unique place, known to locals (with the owner’s help)!
The sashimi was amazing as was the breakfast.
Just before leaving, we had a family crisis that required a change of plans. They were very helpful, which was both comforting and calming.
This place was amazing - pretty much a fabulous sushimi restaurant with a guesthouse on top. We (family of 5) had the run of the place and were treated to exceptional dinners and breakfast everyday.
The owner even took us out one night with kitchen leftovers so the kids could feed the local deer.
If you stay here, come hungry to every dinner!
This place is amazing, a good taste of traditional guest houses.
The dinner was out this world, best sushi I ever had!
Staff was helpful and very polite. Would stay there again on my next visit to Miyajima.
This is a great place to stay for an authentic Japanese experience. The included dinner was delicious and we had a memorable time with the sushi chef. Staying on Miyajima Island allowed us to take a nice evening walk and this ryokan is close to all the sites. We truly enjoyed our stay.
The inn Is fabolous and has a great position near the main point of interest on the island.
The dinner provided at the inn was delicious. The best experience in Japan
One of the best and most unique places I’ve ever stayed. A beautiful old townhouse in the heart of Miyajima within walkable distance of the famous Torii gate. The owner is a sushi master who prepared a stunning omekase sushi dinner for us. I’d recommend staying here and making sure to get the dinner option!
Our host was amazing, as was our stay. The meal we were served was prepared in front of us and absolutely divine - like having a personal chef of the highest calibre. Thank you for making our stay unforgettable.
Unique experience! Single occupancy hotel that is more of a ryokan on a quaint street. The owner/chef speaks little English but his hospitality shined through his actions. The lodging above the small sushi restaurant is simple (2 bedrooms with futon beds), but with a modern bathroom and all very clean. The highlight of the stay was the spectacular ~16 course sushi omakase.
Staying at Shiomachi-An has been awesome!
Nice room with all comfort you can expect from a typical house.
Sushi dinner has been incredible, the best sushi we ate in Japan.
The host that is also the chef is really professional and kind.
Absolutely deserves a stay while in Miyajima!
Very authentic experience on beautiful Miyajima island. The sushi dinner was incredible and like nothing we’ve had before. We were traveling as a family and the owner/chef prepared separate more kid-friendly sushi for my 8 and 11 yo. Breakfast was great as well. Sleeping on the floor is not something we’re used to but it was fine for the night.
Lovely 3 person stay. Two spacious rooms with separate bathroom and toilet. Sushi dinner (absolutely fantastic, 12 or so courses across 2 hours) and hearty breakfast were highlights. Thanks for having us!
It is located very close to the the Itsukushima shrine and food stands and stores. The dinner course was amazing! Great sushi chef and so much sashimi! It will satisfy you plenty. Highly recommended.
We absolutely loved our stay here! We loved everything about the island itself and our overnight stay in this traditional style home made it even better. The sushi meal provided by our host was such a great experience and so yummy. He was the loveliest host and even took us for a walk to see all the beautiful sites at night. Can’t thank you enough. It truly was one of the most memorable parts of our holiday.
For those coming to Miyajima to enjoy the island after the crowds leave, this is the perfect option. It's a cosy, traditional Japanese lodging with tatami rooms, a large soaking bath and a restaurant run by the owner downstairs. He works very hard to ensure everything runs smoothly. You must also have the omakase dinner run by the talented host, he is an exceptional sushi chef and it was by far some of the best food we have had in Japan.
Super helpful with my family, we came on a rainy night soaking wet, and the gentleman working that night was so kind to get us situated amid the chaos we dealt with coming in. He kindly did all our laundry since we were beyond tired. We felt so safe as a family staying here, and definitely got our late night rest. Food was so good as well, we didnt expect to be fed and were surprised with such good food.
Staying at Traditional Machiya Hotel Shiomachi-An was the highlight of my trip! The sushi dinner was delicious, some of the best sushi I've ever had. The fish was so fresh and flavours were superb.
The rooms were decorated in a beautiful style, full of traditional Japanese decor. It was amazing to stay somewhere special. The owner was very warm and welcoming and I'm so impressed that he runs this place himself.
The location was excellent, set away from the super busy area, but close enough to walk to the sights and shopping.
Thank you for the lovely travel memory.
