Fantastic traditional feel onsen hotel, with both public and private onsen baths, comfortable western rooms, public spaces and amenities (robes, refreshments, late night complimentary ramen, etc. Near scenic river run , quaint shops and restaurants, shrines, temples and bamboo groves, all within walking distance. Amazing breakfast buffet, well worth the upgrade.

We liked the idea of the hotel being resort like with amenities and activities to do onsite. Unfortunately my husband and I both got ill during our stay. I had symptoms of food poison or a stomach virus that I believe I contracted at dinner. My husband got chest and sinus congestions that didn't clear for a few days. The onsens were nice but the cleanliness of our room did not match the pictures advertised. There were stains on the walls and visible mold in the shower. Some parts of the hotel had a very strange smell.
Really wish we could give a positive review, but not worth what we paid for.
Truly authentic Ryokan experience. While a lot of the extra fees are detailed in the description of the property (within the fine print) we were taken aback that we had to pay additional fees for a 3rd guest ($300US+ for a two-night stay) when the room is described to have 5 beds. The dinner buffet was $30 per person, there aren't a lot of nearby restaurants within "walking" distance, the property seemed a lot more tucked away then I'd anticipated. Fortunately the convenience store onsite gave us a few options. We did take a cab to the Panoramic Park, enjoyed that excursion, highly recommend. The private onsens were a wonderful option for us as we weren't as keen on the open onsen option. Overall I'm glad we had the ryokan experience. Knowing the pricing on expedia only applied to the first TWO guests would have made our check in process a little more pleasant. Also, the buffet food options are very japanese/chinese, not many options for pickier eaters, just be aware.
Love the amenities and customer service from arrival to departure. Good spread of buffet breakfast, free drinks at the reception and supper! Awesome stay and will visit again
We really enjoyed our stay. Shuzenji Onsen was fabulous and very relaxing. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We loved the Onsen and my kids enjoyed wearing the yakuta and loungewear around the hotel. We borrowed some bikes for a few hours and they were in great condition.
Exquisite entrance design, friendly staff, interesting, efficient, thoughtful Japanese style set up. Very impressed with private bath, yukata, Japanese flower arrangement, variety and exquisite food choices.

It was an incredible experience. Traditional Japanese room, very clean with a view to the mountains. The staff were extremely kind and polite and the buffet food was great. The hotel is also located very close to the main attractions in Shuzenji so everything is walking distance. Also very close to amazing cafes and restaurants like honohono cafe. You can also take a bus and go to Mihama Beach to see Mt Fuji! Would come here again, 10/10.
Loved this property. It was modern, clean, and nice to go barefoot throughout on the tatami mats. We loved the yukatas, the private onsens, and the buffets had good variety and tasty options. Definitely a good value and our kids loved it as well. We will be back!
Stayed here for two nights on 30 Nov and 1 Dec. The hotel has def seen some years but everything was clean and tidy. Rooms were spacious and still had a standing shower, though you would likely not be using it much. Was lucky enough to be given a room at level 4 which is also where the 7 private baths were located at. Each private bath had a different theme (eg some were made of stone, some of wood etc), and it never felt too busy that you had to wait for long to use one. Breakfast and dinner had plenty of options. All in all, happy with the facilities and the stay. Would recommend.
It’s a great place for getaway and relax in the authentic Japanese style. Simple amenities but everything works.
Perfect place to give yourself a moment to rest and relax. The little town is very charming, slow pace and atmospheric.
