About this property
Simpson Station: Historic Train Depot with direct access to recreational trails
Simpson Station is an authentic historic train depot recently converted into a unique home on the Whistle Stop Recreational Trail and Route 4. Step outside to miles of snowmobile, ATV, biking and walking trails, with the Androscoggin River just beyond the backyard.
New kitchen and bathroom, with original floors and historic architectural details. The first floor offers comfortable living and sleeping space, the basement features a TV/game room.
Ample, level parking for vehicles and trailers.
The space: Simpson Station sits directly on the 14-mile Whistle Stop Trail, with connections to many more miles of trails throughout Western Maine. Step outside for snowmobiling, ATV riding, biking, walking, and year-round exploring—no need to trailer your machines to a trailhead.
The Androscoggin River is just beyond the property, part of the French Falls Preserve abutting the property, offering opportunities for fishing, paddling, kayaking, and enjoying the outdoors.
Simpson Station is the perfect, unique home base for a Western Maine ski trip. Sugarloaf, Sunday River, Lost Valley, Pleasant Mountain, and Rangeley are all an hour away, with Black Mountain less than an hour away and Spruce Mountain and Titcomb Mountain Ski Area even closer! Simpson Station is the original home of the famous Ski Depot ski shop.
Dining, groceries, shopping, and exploring all available in Jay, with more options in Farmington and Wilton, just a short drive away. Augusta and the Auburn/Lewiston area are both less than an hour away, making Simpson Station convenient for guests traveling throughout central and Western Maine.
Whether you're planning a snowmobile or ATV trip, ski weekend, fishing getaway, fall foliage adventure, or simply want a unique place to stay while exploring Maine, Simpson Station puts you in a surprisingly central location—with the trail literally outside your door.
The interior is curated with historical railroad maps, books, prints, and antique decor paying homage to the area's history of manufacturing, lumbering, granite quarrying, and of course locomotion.
The bedroom has one queen bed, with another queen bed in the loft. The basement has a foosball table, dart board, games, sofa, and smart TV, as well a half bath with a washer and dryer.
Guest access: Guest have access to the entire building, and the outside. Guests will be the only people at the property.
Other things to note: The train station is a unique building and we have tried to preserve as much of the original charm and character while adding modern amenities.
