Kata Noi Beach

This secluded beach is less than 20 kilometres from Phuket Town, yet it feels a world away from the well-worn tourist trail.

Kata Noi – literally meaning “small beach” – is at the dead end of a road between two headlands to the south of the village of Kata. Endowed with stunning natural beauty, its remote location on the road to nowhere has kept it unspoilt and peaceful – a well-kept secret escape from the better-known tourist resorts. This idyllic 800-metre stretch of sand protected by limestone cliffs is often almost deserted, even during the high season.Family groups will find a sanctuary from the nightlife and water sports just along the coast. The warm, sheltered waters provide some of the safest bathing on the island, even for young children, as well as crystal-clear snorkelling. From May to October it is possible to rent snorkelling gear to explore the teeming marine life that lies under the ocean’s calm surface, undisturbed by jet skis and surfboards.Relaxation comes as standard in this tranquil retreat, but if you need a little external help to unwind, indulge yourself with a massage at one of the beachside shacks. Afterwards, grab a tasty snack from one of the beach vendors, then curl up in the shade with a book or take a nap on a sun lounger. This part of the coast is dotted with luxury resorts and hotels catering for guests staying longer. One of the largest is Katathani Phuket Beach Resort, where many of Kata’s most popular restaurants are located. Here you will find a wide range of international cuisine and local specialities, including delicious, freshly caught seafood. Mom Tri’s Kitchen is a popular spot for a romantic dinner with wonderful views across the bay. The restaurant’s gourmet menu and extensive wine list have put it firmly on the fine-dining map. Alternatively, get your culinary kicks in one of the friendly local cafés in the town centre, where you can sample tasty Thai favourites in more informal surroundings. The scenic coastal drive from Phuket Town to Kata Noi Beach makes a pleasant excursion away from the tourist hotspots.
