About this property
Texas Safari Camp-Tent & Tree House Retreat
The Texas Safari Camp is the perfect getaway for relaxation, adventure & wildlife viewing. This wooded & secluded 31 acre camping & tree house retreat is less than an hour east of Dallas but it feels like another world. A mile and a half down at the end of a one lane road and surrounded by an exotic wildlife habitat and virgin forests, it is quieter than most state parks. Incredibly secluded and only 20 minutes from groceries, restaurants, Buc-ee's and 30 minutes from Canton First Monday.
Imagine two pristine ponds in the middle of peaceful forest. There is a charming Hummingbird Tree House on an elevated deck overlooking the front pond. Visitors can choose from many wonderful (undesignated) tent camping spots, many that are waterfront or water view. This property adjoins the Texas Zoofari Park on two sides. This 900 acre drive through park with 1200 exotic animals makes for an amazing experience, submerging you in the sights and sounds of nature. The seclusion, the forest, the ponds, the amazing animals next door combine to make the Texas Safari Camp one of the most unique destinations for nature loving groups & individuals in North Texas.
We offer a much more personal experience than any State Park. Your host is Randall Oliver, a woodworking artist. His energy, creative vision and love of the outdoors have transformed this property into the jewel that it is. New to Hip Camp but he has been organizing group campouts for 30 years and enjoys hosting, bringing people together and inspiring a passion for the outdoors. Randall personally welcomes everyone, regardless of race, religion, color, creed or sexual orientation. He looks forward to sitting around the campfire with his guests, sharing stories, laughter and good will and would be happy to teach your kids how to build a campfire and paddle a kayak. This property is his back yard and the people who camp here are treated like family.
Kid and family friendly, visitors can enjoy hours of water fun, swimming and fishing and paddling kayaks & paddleboards in the front pond. There are hammocks, swinging chair and a tire swing for the kids. Fish the back pond or hike the serene trail through the forest. Ponds are stocked with cat, bass, crappie and bluegill. Relax and socialize around the numerous fire pits with an endless supply of firewood.
Visitors can camp anywhere except between the green building and front pond. Most choose waterfront camping but there are numerous other areas with varying degrees of seclusion. Off road wagons are provided to help with hauling your gear. There is also an area for a few RV’s (no hookups) that overlooks the exotic wildlife park. While it adjoins the wildlife park on two sides, Texas Safari Camp is in no way affiliated with Texas Zoofari Park.
There is an adorable rustic outhouse, handcrafted from reclaimed materials. It has a ventilated, composting toilet, sink and faucet, lights, soap, towels and a hummingbird window touch of class. Visitors have nearby access to water, electricity, a cold water outdoor shower (no privacy), a sink, faucet and counter.
For more of a glamping experience, visitors can stay in the charming, handcrafted Hummingbird Tree House. Perched on an elevated deck overlooking the front pond, this tiny cabin can comfortably sleep two adults in a queen bed and two small kids in the loft. It has leaded glass windows, screened operable windows, electricity, lights and a fan and an operable porthole window in the kids loft. There is no heat or AC. With lights, tables, chairs and a thatch covered umbrella on the deck, this is a magical and romantic alternative to tent camping.
