The Viking House is not the Four Seasons or the Ritz. What it is though is a clean, quiet, cozy and humble hotel set in some of the most beautiful surroundings you can imagine. The rooms are small and the beds are soft and if you want to cool your room down, open the window and allow the fresh sea air to blow in. There is no lift/elevator but it does have a couple of rooms on the ground floor if stairs are a challenge for you.
The restaurant in the hotel is also cozy. It attracts locals in the area as well as guests at the hotel. The food is very good with traditional Irish fare. We found the food to be some of the best we had during our time in Ireland.
There is a pub as well which also attracts some of the locals in the area. You will most likely make a new friend or two if you decide to ask about the region by sparking a conversation.
Set high up on a hill above the ocean, the hotel faces towards some spectacular sunsets.
We loved our stay here and it was one of the highlights of our stay in Ireland. I look forward to returning one day soon.

Colin, the owner and his staff were simply excellent. Nothing was a problem and the service was above normal. We will visit again. The surrounding area was delightful.

Hotel needs a make over .and a good clean .
Room no 8 did not smell clean . Smell of body odour even with window open
Smell of kerosene at bottom of stairwell .. filtering upstairs ? Black mould lower part of showers cubical .
Dust behind the room door
Our room was spotless and comfortable with a lovely en suite shower room. Breakfasts were generous with good gluten-free options. Because of covid we chose to dine in the hotel instead of venturing into other restaurants. We had four excellent dinners (the steak was amazing). But the thing that made our holiday perfect was the helpfulness of everyone on the staff. Donegal has always been known for hospitality and The Viking is a perfect example.
We stayed here one night and it was perfect. Room and ensuite were super clean. Staff were really friendly and the food was delicious. Bar was also really good. Would stay here again no problem.
Lovely room with amazing views combined with very tasty made to order breakfast. Also had a beautiful dinner on one evening followed by some very relaxing drinks in restaurant/bar. Staff very attentive and all in all this is a brilliant little hotel with fantastic access to natures best - Arranmore Island, Cruit Island & spectacular beaches such as Tra a Bhaid, located just past the airport. Would highly recommend for a few days as a base for your visit to West Donegal.
Great staff food good clean rooms
Stay away from room 5. Noisy extracter fan beside bed.
And the Wi-fi doesn’t reach the room ,this was the reason we didn’t stay longer
We had a wonderful time at this hotel
The owner was exceptional. She did everything to make my stay perfect even recorded the soaps I missed as I was sitting in front of an open fire with my friends. I would highly recommend this hotel

We had a lovely weekend away with the kids, a lovely quaint little place with a great friendly atmosphere, the staff were friendly and the service was great. There is a nice restaurant we had lovely food and the staff accommodated our children’s wishes. The bar is nice in the evening and we had some great craic with the locals. We will definitely return
One of the best hotel experiences of our lives. The most welcoming and friendly staff. Great food. Unbelievably great service.

Accommodation was great, lovely view, nice sitting area inside & out. Bar & restaurant area clean, great service & helpful staff. No downside at all! 5 Star all the way!!
Stayed here with my two children, great welcome on arrival, lovely dinner in the restaurant and easy listening Irish music in the bar, beautiful coastline and lovely beaches in the area, I would stay again, great base to explore the area
Last minute booking for a night away. Staff very friendly. Room was quite small but really it had everything we needed. Breakfast was very good and we left with a positive impression of the hotel. If you want fancy furnishings and a grand hotel, this isn't your place but it makes up for grandeur in every other way.
This is a beautiful small country hotel in a fabulous location, very reasonable rates with breakfast included. We had dinner there in the evening and again it was beautiful. The staff were fantastic and very friendly and helpful. The location is absolutely breathtaking with lovely looped walks near the hotel. Will definitely stay there again
Amazing view! Ask for a front room. The entire staff was most welcoming and efficient. Gave great ideas on where to go for best view. Even booked a tee time for my husband. Warm and homey.
A very warm welcome and a comfortable stay. Nice views of the sea and easy access to the nearby Cruit Island with good walks and sea views. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast which were both good. All the staff were chatty and helpful providing advice on where to go and what to see.
