Cozy traditional Japanese house.

Place was very good at first impression and very clean. Conveniently located near convenient stores and bus stops. This place was next to a kids playground so it was good for the kids. Floor was also heated in the home. This place also had two toilet rooms.

Traditional home experience, albeit loud

Beautiful rental home duplex (side by side) within walking distance (10 minutes) of train station and Nijo Castle. Lovely and comfortable with nice touches like a soaking bath and heated floors. However, bring earplugs and eyepatch, as the main bedroom faces an alley with a motion sensor security light that goes off frequently at night + a major intersection 50 meters away which can often be loud at night.

The house was amazing. Very warm, convenient location to relax in the city. I would recommend. As other reviewers said, there is a motion detector light going off many times at night and you can hear a bit the cars in the night passing, but that was not a problem for us at all. Would definitely rebook.

Wonderful place to stay, we loved that the area was in a real neighborhood and not touristy. The only complaint is the main bedroom faces a an alley that has a motion activated light that shines bright on and off all night while you are trying to sleep. Dark shade would help this situation.

I wanted to experience living in a traditional machiya in Kyoto and this beautifully renovated machiya was perfect. They've done an amazing job keeping most of it's original features, but added a modern twist to it, giving it a wonderful aesthetic. I was expecting the machiya to be freezing cold without turning on the heater due to machiyas having poor insulation, but it wasn't cold at all with the heater off. As with older machiyas, the sound proofing was lacking, but the experience in staying at a beautifully renovated traditional machiya outweighed that con. Definitely would stay here again.
