Driftless weekend
What a delight! Janis is a wonderful host, met us at the property and showed us all around. The location is ideal - minutes from the Kickapoo Reserve, and down the road from Viroqua. The house is a lovely old farmhouse with beautiful wood details, comfortable furniture, fully equipped kitchen, and beautiful views.

Great relaxing, quiet stay
Although we only stayed two nights we were very pleased with our Vrbo choice. The property is a 100-year old farmhouse, literally right "on the farm." The house is spacious, super clean and comfortable. Janis is a very pleasant host; communicative and responsive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful and relaxing
We spent the weekend with 4 families (8 adults and 5 young kids) and we all enjoyed every part of it! Janis the owner was so welcoming and so interesting to talk to. You could hear the love and joy that she has for the property in her voice. The views were breathtaking, the cows were fun the watch and the big mature trees provided some comfortable shade as we had a fun ‘water day’ with the kids. The house and sounds of the farm take you back to a simpler, slower time. Even though there are many scenic attractions near by, there was no need for us to wonder too far. We definitely would love to stay again. :)

Amazing Stay!
Couldnt have asked for a better place to stay. The property is exactly as described and has amazing views of the surrounding countryside. The house is beautiful, clean, and full of history. Janice was a wonderful host and was quick and courteous with all communication. She was so sweet and made sure our stay was perfect. We will definitely look to stay here again when visiting the area.

Great relaxing stay!
We really enjoyed our relaxing stay at the farmhouse. Janis was very hospitable and communicative. We loved the scenic view of Wisconsin and would recommend the stay to anyone seeking an escape from busy city life!

Picturesque Rural Getaway
This very clean and spacious Bunkhouse was just what I needed after a recent retirement. My mother and I, along with my 2 Yorkshire terriers, had a very relaxing time here. The views in the Driftless region are just beautiful and the roads with all the hills and sharp curves were so much fun to drive. We had fun visiting several of the small communities and the various shops and cheese stores in each one. Janis was a spectacular host and offered tips on places to visit or to eat and made us feel most welcome. She was cordial and very easy to communicate with. I'd highly recommend staying at this Bunkhouse and hope to go back again.

Charming Farm House
Our stay at the Bar W Bunkhouse was wonderful. It's a Great Farm House with lots of charm and an awesome view. The Hosts were very attentive to our needs and everything was extremely clean. Although it was only my husband and myself, we are thinking about a future visit for our family reunion since the 5 bedrooms will work perfectly. We stayed there during the winter but the location is perfect for a summer get away since it's near many summer activities.

Perfect for a family with a dog
Great home base for family driftless adventures. If the moon and clouds cooperate, nice view of the southern sky. Clean. Comfortable beds. Friendly, helpful hosts. Practical, no frills, reasonably priced. 20Mbps internet.

Perfect place for the Dam Challenge weekend
It was clean inside- very clean. The place is exactly as described. The outside has beautiful vistas. We enjoyed watching the cattle on this working farm. The location was just right for the Dam challenge. The owners are super nice and Janice checked on us daily to see if we needed anything.

Lovely rural setting. Everything was very clean, great place to kick back and relax. Wonderful hosts. Enjoyed watching the beef cattle. Sitting around the fire pit watching the moon come up was spectacular.

Awesome farm house
I enjoyed staying on a working farm with out standing views. The house was clean, tidy and had all the amenities that you need. Located in the heart of the driftless are on top of a hill overlooking a picturesque view of the surrounding area. Our host Janis was extremely helpful. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat.

Beautiful property
They were very helpful and came over to bring us things. They work on the farm across the way so they were available. The property was up on a hill and beautiful. There's a fast highway in front of the house but it didn't affect our stay.

Our stay was great. We had some questions about the dryer and instead of just talking me through how to do it, the property manager just came over (after asking) in like two minutes to show me the solution. She was great.

Thank you for your review. We did have 3 lawn chairs melted and broke. We also had one bed soaked through mattress and we had to dry clean bedspread and linens. We do wish you would have let us know of these things and anything else you had any problems with.

Girls chill time
This was the perfect place for some chill time for my sister and I, our daughters and our hounds to stay a few days and really have a great time. Walking the dead end road with the dogs was perfect to tire them out. Sitting on the chairs out back taking in the super moon rising was mesmerizing. We will be looking forward to another trip in the future.

A perfect Driftless getaway
We had the best time staying at the Bunkhouse. Janice was on top of all details and was a great communicator before and during our stay. The house was perfect for our needs and we really enjoyed sitting around the firepit in the evenings enjoying the view, the stars, the cows, coyote howls & each other. A great central spot for day visits to Kickapoo Valley Reserve, Wildcat Mountain and other area stops. We would love to return soon and will definitely recommend to friends!

Great stay at the ranch!
We stayed here for 2 nights during a wedding just outside of Viola and the accommodations were exactly what we needed. It was also a great place for our 6 yr old pup too who enjoyed the big open fields! This is the perfect place anyone staying with a larger group or even just a few people. Janis and Brent were excellent hosts. Janis even met us for check-in when we were arriving a little later than expected. There were also breakfast treats provided for us (cakes and coffee) which was a nice perk! Will definitely look to stay here again for the next function we attend in the area!

Grandson’s Time
Each year we take our grandsons age 20 and age 19 on a time with Grandma and Grandpa special time. COVID took that away the last two years so trout fishing was the theme this year and the big five bedroom house was just great! Outstanding location and facility for a great time together.

A Farm for Everyone
All our family enjoyed staying at the Bunkhouse. Grandma and Grampa loved the peaceful setting and clear night sky. The 8- and 10-year-old boys were fascinated by the cattle and explored every inch of the barnyard playing hide-and-seek. They, their dad, and Grampa strategized, with varying degrees of success, how to fly their kite, while we girls applauded their efforts and enjoyed the breeze. We adults watched as the boys and their 14-year-old sister rolled on the slope in the backyard, laughing and giggling. What pleasure! At night we sat around the fire as the moon rose in the vast expanse of sky. In the mornings we had coffee on the front porch and thought about the former residents. From the backyard we saw miles of rolling hills covered with crops and timber. We relaxed and enjoyed not only the Bunkhouse but each other. It’s a perfect place to know each other better. Thank you!

Amazing experience
Janice was really sweet, the house was very clean and full of character. Morning coffee on the enclosed front porch was just like the movies. The bulls in the pasture outside were so sweet and the girls loved feeding them. Plenty of wood supplied for the fire pit. Don’t worry about bringing charcoal, lighter fluid or matches for the grill either. The girls helped feed the calves a few times, and Janice took us for a ride in the AtV through the pasture with the moms and babies. My mom and dad thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Beautiful country side, fishing on the Mississippi River was worth the drive, and the The Old Country Cheese store is a must. Call ahead to reserve your curds, cheese goes fast. Bambú side country roads to explore, A+ trip for us!

Centrally located in the Drift Less Area
We had a great stay, wide view of the valley, spent a night around the fire (plenty of patio chairs). Spectacular star field in the night sky, listened to the cow's moo and the coyote's howl. Cooked dinner out on the provided grill, breakfast made on the stove, plenty of pots and pans, and dishes. With 5 bedrooms and two baths we were able to spread out and enjoy ourselves. Well defiantly stay again, great fishing and shopping. Thanks for being great host.

Great time in the countryside
We had a great time away from the city with friends. Plenty beds for 10 people, lots of extra blankets and towels. Kitchen has everything you need to cook, pots and pans, dinnerware and silverware. The house has its charm in its history and owners take care of it to keep it in good shape. Skiing, tubing is about 1 hour away.

Groom’s Family Stayed Here
We stayed here with our adult children/grandkids. Janis was an amazing hostess and even made sure we had what we needed for our first morning there are getting stuff in traffic due to an accident in Madison. She went above and beyond. She took our Grandkids to see the calves, and they loved it! The area is perfect, the Fall Foliage would be a terrific reason to come. There are many old barns, and a photographer could get lost on the backroads and never be at a loss of things to shoot. Would definitley stay again, and again!! The ONLY downside is Apple Maps is a total failure in this area. Must be WEST of LaFarge, WI if you want the correct house! 🥰😍

Farmhouse retreat in the Driftless
Came with some friends for a long weekend away from Madison. It's an old farmhouse but fairly well kept. Closer to the road and the cows than I was expecting; you're definitely on the farm! Kitchen is well equipped. Beds were fine and the linens were clean. Bathroom situation a bit odd; the shower's in the downstairs bathroom, which has a flexible divider for a door off the kitchen, while the upstairs bathroom only has the big clawfoot tub. Only real complaint is that we got hustled out a bit early on short notice because the next group had a wedding.

Non-communicative and at time of check-out, they had not started to leave- left 20 minutes late at our request- our check-out time is published several places and they were reminded the day before leaving.

Loved life on the farm!’
Our stay at the Bunkhouse was great. We loved the feel of the farmhouse, with plenty of room for all seven family members. The grounds are very beautiful with amazing vistas of corn and alfalfa and cattle! The fire pit was a plus. We could sit under the stars while making s’mores and laughing with loved ones. Our hosts were delightful and totally responsive to all of our needs. We hope to come back again! Thanks for a great adventure!

Gorgeous views and excellent hosts!
Ten family members and 5 dogs visited for six nights. Brent and Janis couldn’t have been more welcoming. The bunk house is totally charming. The valley views and cows were so relaxing. Exactly what we all needed after a very long year. Can’t wait to visit again. You will not be disappointed!!
