If you are looking to spend a fantastic day out in nature, be sure to visit the Falls of Clyde Wildlife Reserve. If museums are more your thing then don’t miss the Museum of Lead Mining in Biggar and the National Museum of Rural Life in East Kilbride.
Summerlee the Museum of Scottish Life in Coatbridge North Lanarkshire makes for a wonderful day out. When you walk through the main gate it is often compared to taking a step back in time to an old shipyard, with its steelworks and machines brought back to life. You can really visualise the hardship the miners and labourers of Lanarkshire had to endure.
Historic Hamilton
Hamilton is a historic town at the tip of the Clyde Valley. While you’re here, be sure to pay a visit to the Hamilton Mausoleum. Renowned for having the longest lasting echo of any building in the world, if you make the trip, be sure to give it a try while you are there.
Hamilton town itself contains many places to stop and shop, along with restaurants a-plenty to sit back and relax in. If you are a sporting enthusiast, Hamilton has its own race course playing host too many race meetings throughout the calendar year, as well as its own football team.
Take the family to Strathclyde Country Park. Set in beautiful surroundings, it is a popular destination for families with a vast range of activities for all ages, including, outdoor adventure playgrounds, bicycle and walking trails.
Use Lanarkshire as your base and explore other areas in Scotland. If you are feeling very adventurous the national cultural hub of Scotland, Glasgow is just a little further south east.
