The best spot on the island!

This place is amazing. Feels like you’re so far away from everything, yet close enough to drive to whatever we wanted to see. The geckos and frogs are everywhere, the sunrises are beautiful, and it was everything we wanted and more!

Lovely location with a great view

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The rental is about 25 miles outside of Hilo, which was perfect for our group. The house has a beautiful front porch that overlooks the ocean and is the perfect way to start your day with a cup of coffee or end your day looking at the stars. The house has some additional supplies that were super helpful: beach chairs, coolers, snorkel gear to name a few things. The management company provided a very informative binder with details specific to the area which was super helpful. The rental was as advertised - overall a great experience.

Fabulous retreat

What a gorgeous house, and what an amazing garden. A short drive to Hilo and a shorter drive to other small towns worth a visit. Modest kitchen with most necessities, everything was clean and in great shape. Amazing beds and views. Very private from neighbors. A wonderful, comfortable stay.

Beautiful View

The pictures of the property are perfect of the property. Beautiful home and location. Road getting to the property is a bit steep and curvy but worth the drive! The property is in the rain forest and that comes with geckos, but they kept to themselves.

Privacy and a wonderful ocean view

Our family of 4 stayed at the Relaxing Gardens home. The property was secluded (which was fantastic), it had gorgeous vegetation, and a beautiful ocean view. It was very spacious and we all had our own space to relax and rejuvenate ourselves. There was plenty of outdoor seating, a hammock, and space in the front of the house to go outside for some fresh air. The kitchen was well stocked and we lacked for nothing. Relaxing Gardens is a great place to stay. We used it as our home base as we traveled around on the Big Island.

It was perfect for us, with plenty of space, beautiful views from inside and on the deck, and a kitchen we could use to prepare meals. The location is also excellent with good proximity to lots of great hiking and sightseeing. We would definitely come back again.

Fantastic home near Hilo

Absolutely wonderful stay at this property. The house was in an absolutely gorgeous setting on a well-maintained garden lot with a great view of the ocean and sunrises. It was very convenient to Hilo and many of the sites on the Eastern side of the island, including Carlsmith and Richardson beach parks, volcano national park, and Hilo. And it was relatively easy (an hour and a half drive) to Kona and the west side of the island. The house itself was clean and comfortable, with large, spacious rooms and comfortable beds. The kitchen was stocked with all the cooking pans, knives, and utensils we needed. It was such a great home. A wonderful stay and a wonderful home.

Perfect stay on the Hilo side

Reviewer Comments: My family and I have been vacationing on the Big Island for over 30 years and have always stayed on the west side of the island in Kona or Waikoloa. We tried this rental on the east side for the first time. We’ve all agreed we will be staying on the east side and, hopefully, in this home from now on. It’s the most aptly titled rental. It truly is a relaxing garden. The home and gardens are magnificent. The sunrises from the front lanai are amazing. There is a little general store with a bar and restaurant about 4 miles away, otherwise you have a very isolated feel. Hilo is only about 35 mins away. There is a nice oceanfront park about 2 mikes away where we snorkeled, played frisbee, and explored tidal pools everyday. This was absolutely our best Hawaii experience ever.

Beautiful Location

The location overlooking the property and the ocean is incredible in the mornings. Sunrise is a special event. The house is well maintained, furnished well, and has all the amenities that you need. While on the more rainy side of the island, the rain occurred in the evenings and did not interfere with our plans. There was mentioned the sound of frogs, but we found them soothing along with the rain at night - a natural green sound machine. Someone in a prior review mentioned the road, but the road was good - one lane, curvy and paved - any car can make this road going slow. I would recommend this house if you are looking for a quiet location to recharge and be away from the city. The sunny side, Hilo and the volcanos were all within less than an hour drive. Nearby the house is a great local store and restaurant - Papaaloa Country Store (papaaloacountrystore.com). Look online for their hours. The store had most things you need, and the grab and go food was excellent. I recommend trying their fish tacos and Lilikoi Cake which is addicting.

A True Paradise

Relaxing Gardens exceeded our expectations. We stayed 4 nights as our home base to explore the Hilo side of the island and it was perfect for our family of 5. The home was exactly as described in the listing. The photos do not do it justice. The views from every room are sensational. We woke up to the sunrise over the ocean and enjoyed sunsets every evening. The layout of the house with 2 bedrooms/1 bath upstairs and 1 bedroom/bath downstairs is ideal for a family plus in-laws...I wish we invited my parents to join us! Home is well-stocked and simply pleasant to be in. Dining indoors with endless ocean views and also on the wrap-around porch was a treat. The gardens surrounding the house are amazing. I was constantly admiring the landscaping, flora and beauty. The thought/planning that went into the design really shows.We were not prepared for such a botanical adventure outside our door! Location of the home was just right to explore the northern coast as well the downtown Hilo and Volcanoes areas. Driving up and down the road to home was one of my favorite parts...it was just so peaceful. We did not want to leave. We actually regret not staying longer and prefer the Hilo side than Kona. Highly recommend Relaxing Gardens!

Absolutely special

Reviewer Comments: I have been coming to the Big Island for several weeks at a time for the past fifteen years so I have some experience with rental properties. I have always utilized VRBO in the past with varied experiences and never went through a private Rental company such as Salt Water before. The description, images and explanation of the home were absolutely correct- the only surprises we had were how much we loved this home. Relaxing Gardens is a spacious and very private plot in a lovely rural neighborhood on the trade wind coast-- we never needed air conditioning, just fresh sea breeze all day and night. The rain on this level of the coast is present, but stayed very reliable to the late afternoons and overnight which was a change from Hilo central. And OMG the stars were incredible. The location is also fabulous for adventures-- you are essentially equidistant from the best activities on the island. It is remote, but the Island is all the more accesible because of it. I never saw a single bug in the house (thanks to their expert care and the gecko friends), and everything was up to date and pristine. We enjoyed resourcing our food at local markets and cooked essentially every meal in the perfectly stocked kitchen and charcoal grill. I also have to say, the Best water pressure in anyplace I've stayed on Big I which was so nice. I will definitely be contacting Salt Water for all of our stays in the future. Mahalo!

Beautiful House with stunning views

It looks exactly like the pictures. Stunning views of the ocean. I mean STUNNING!! I couldn’t wait to lift the shades every morning. Privately situated with a gate. We felt safe there. Very clean and well equipped house. Instructions were clear and the host was very responsive to questions. If you’re looking for remote, this is the place. It’s a good 40 minutes from Hilo meaning grocery stores, general shopping needs and convenience food are not close so rent a car, preferably 4WD. I doubt DoorDash would travel out that far. There is a small gas station about 5 minutes down the road that has some limited snack food and some other diner food options about 20 minutes in the opposite direction. My advice is to stock up on everything in Hilo before you head to the house. We didn’t and had to make a meal out of what we could find at the gas station the first night. It does get a bit noisy in the trees after dark. We weren’t expecting that but we looked it up and think it’s little frogs and birds possibly. Once we turned on the TV and we barely heard it. We drove back and forth across the island to Kona a couple of times and it’s a pretty easy drive (2 hours there and 2 hours back) because it’s just gorgeous everywhere you look, even inland. We would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend!

Comfort and Quiet with Majestic Views

At night, we could see an incredible amount of stars in every direction.The home was very comfortable, clean and with any amenity we could have hoped for. The kitchen was well outfitted and there was even a rolling cooler available for our convenience. There were two large bedrooms upstairs with a large shared bath, which included a washer and dryer. Downstairs was an open concept, with dining room and living room. As well the downstairs had a private bedroom with a bathroom and it's own side porch. Plenty of seating inside and out.This was our first visit to the Big Island and we booked half of it on the Hilo side and half on the Kona side. The plan was to explore and we were perfectly located for just that. The home is located about 25 minutes from Hilo, 45 from Waipo Valley and about an hour from the Volcano Park. Although we worried about being too remote, it didn't feel that way at all ultimately. Within 5 minutes of us was an excellent general store with great prepared food and hot food/pizza etc. They even have music many days of the week.Although it rained sometimes periodically, there was nothing like ongoing downpours. Loved the comfort of the house, the lanai and the lush setting. Amazing star gazing as a plus. Views to the ocean, very quiet other than the nature sounds of coquis and more. The kitchen is very well equipped to cook. Comfortable bedding. All we needed for a wonderful Hawaii experience, 6 stars!!!

Amazing!

The pictures do not do justice for how beautiful this home is! We were in instant awe when we turned the corner and saw the amazing home and garden. Great instruction on how to get in, extremely clean and homey. All communication was fast and friendly, and the neighborhood was gorgeous. Dream home, perfect vacation!
