"Lovely staff, excellent hot tub, beautiful location. Only minor issue was that the hallways were a little bit noisy for a small hotel. We were awakened by other travelers doors opening & closely loudly early in the morning but otherwise Basalt Hotel was wonderful."

"It was a bit confusing to find the room or even the right building. I thought it would have a refrigerator but it didn't. But that didn't matter because we had so much room, the extra space was wonderful after being crammed into some small rooms. The breakfast was pretty amazing, one of the best we had in Iceland."

"My wife and I stayed here for 4 days in August 2026 and had a fantastic time. The camping pod was clean and comfortable and offered everything we needed for a good sleep. Washrooms and showers were easily available and clean with plenty of hot water. The troll garden was an unexpected highlight of our trip and offered a breathtaking view of the surrounding scenery - we walked on it multiple times throughout our stay, both in the morning and evening. We dined in the bistro for our final supper and breakfast in Iceland and the food was so delicious and surprisingly reasonably priced (for Iceland 😁). We chatted with Steinar on our way out and he is an absolutely lovely person with a true passion for Iceland and trolls, all of which is reflected in Fossatún in its entirety. The only thing we didn’t get a chance to experience was the hot tubs, as they were always occupied whenever we wanted to go in them (to be fair, though, we were never around in the early evening as we were always out exploring other parts of Iceland until the sun went down at around 22:00). Also, the dryer was broken while we were there, so we had to air dry our clean clothes in our pod. But these are very minor quibbles that did nothing at all to diminish our overall experience. If we ever make it back to Iceland, we will make sure to stop by Fossatún for at least one night and another stroll in the troll garden."

"We really enjoyed our time in our static bus. The views of the mountain were superb, and it was nice to be able to walk some way up the side of it, to about 150 m. I could have gone higher if I was suitably equipped. The bus itself was well equipped, though the kettle took a long time to boil. We planned our hot drinks well in advance. Linda was very helpful and supplied a bowl to do the dishes as there was no stopper in the sink. The toilets and showers were close by and worked very well. Great location close to the highway with good views over the bay towards Reykjavik."
