Captain's Cabin Bed & Breakfast: Historic & Romantic

Enjoy your own log cabin on a wooded hillside overlooking a lake as you start on the bourbon trail. It's been the location for Lifetime and Hallmark movies! Period furnishings and modern conveniences make this an unforgettable retreat. A massive stone fireplace creates a quiet ambiance. Tasteful antiques appoint the cabin for a step back in time.

Captain's Cabin offers a special one-of-a-kind experience surrounded by history and luxury simultaneously. You will enjoy your own full kitchen, fully equipped and stocked with spices and supplies. The bath has been lovingly renovated while retaining the clawfoot tub. Enjoy a long soak with hand-crafted scrubs and soaps. There is no shower! You are surrounded in comfort from the ultra soft sheets, luxurious robes, and Sleep Number bed to the gourmet hot breakfast delivered to your door every weekend morning. Continental breakfast is provided on weekdays. (We promise you won't go hungry!) Join us for a Cooking With Bourbon Dinner Experience on weekends. Sip wine by the fireplace, read on the back porch swings or enjoy the wildlife visiting the lake from the front porch. Only 17 minutes from downtown Louisville, you are surrounded by 8 acres of woods and wildlife. Take a walk along the lake, hike through the woods and discover the waterfall. Take a canoe ride or go wading in the smooth limestone creek. Warm up by the firepit and roast marshmallows or use the grill to make your favorite dinner. Play golf or disc golf on the adjacent public courses. Captain's Cabin was featured in the April 2015 issue of Country's Best Cabins magazine, 2015 September issue of Style Blueprint magazine and April 2016 Home of the Week in Courier Journal.

Captain's Cabin is a great place to start your Bourbon Trail adventure, experience one of the Top Foodie Cities, visit the Ark and Creation Museum or bet on the ponies at Churchill Downs. But many people come here just to relax and get away from it all!

If you can't get enough of cabin living, Jan is a licensed architect specializing in log and timberframe homes. He can make your dream a reality!

Amazing Cabin Experience
We really enjoyed our stay here. It was one of the most unique places we've stayed. The cabin and surrounding property gave a very secluded and outdoor feeling while providing easy access to the amenities of the city. The hosts were very nice and accommodating the entire time.

Romantic Getaway!
Property owner responsive and polite. The cabin itself is accurately represented in pictures. Loved the wood burning fireplace. Wifi perfect. Based off the property listing, it was not as private as I had hoped. When we arrived, 9 crackers, 2 small cheese cubes and wine were on the table. Don’t drink, so wine was left. Several kitchen food items were expired (coffee, microwave popcorn and hot chocolate add-ins). The breakfast was the biggest disappointment… one small dry biscuit, 3 (half pieces) candied bacon and cheesy eggs. When it states “you won’t go hungry” - we left to go get food. It is sweet place but not worth the price I paid at all. What we experienced, it feels like a $175 per night (all in). We overpaid by a lot!

Cabin Stay
Such a neat old cabin! It was beautifully decorated with all of the amenities you’d need today. There is a microwave in the pantry closet which I didn’t find until day 2 so that made things much easier. Breakfast was wonderful and all of the local recommendations were greatly appreciated!

Early Christmas
We were in Louisville for an early Christmas celebration with family. We spent the mornings and evenings at the house and loved every minute. Such a sweet place and terrific hosts. We will be back, if they’ll have us. 5 star stay, thank you.

Unique and Lovely property
We were visiting family in the area, so we did not spend as much time at the cabin as most guests would. The breakfasts were very nice and delicious. The bedding and the bed are very comfortable. We slept very well. It was so quiet. It’s hard to believe that you are in the middle of Suburban Louisville when you have such a beautiful wooded area with a nice pond with a blue heron and mallards to greet you every morning.

A relaxing step back in time....
The accommodations were amazing - so many little Revolutionary War details - and everything in the cabin was squeaky clean!! We enjoyed meeting both hosts and really loved the cooking class. A couple of constructive criticisms though: since they are focused on "relaxing" and not worrying about anything, it would really be nice to have curtains in the bedroom!! But instead --- We were both woken up super early by the sunlight streaming into the bedroom. We really wanted to sleep in but was unable to sleep beyond 6:30 am - the sun was strong!! Two, it was clear in the property notes that there was only a tub and no shower but.....it would be nice to have a shower "hose" available to attach to the faucet for the tub. They are not super expensive and it would be a nice option. The available "pitcher" was not really a viable option for washing my hair nor did my husband think it was easy to use to rinse himself off after his bath. He said It was super awkward.... All in all a relaxing weekend in general but the above items, especially the sunlight streaming in at 6 AM, detracted from it a lot.
