"If you long for a quiet little spot of nature, and your own little castle above Ponte de Lima, search no more, this is the place! We simply adored our week at Filipe windmill. "I was absolutely blown away by this hotel! I booked on Expedia and messaged the hotel directly, they were very responsive. I got an amazing, spacious room with great views of Bom Jesus de Monte. The rooms are spotless and the bedding is very comfortable. Breakfast was included, but it was extremely limited, so I stopped using it after day two. There’s no room service, but the restaurant attached to the hotel is lovely, with stunning views over Braga. The staff are very accommodating, and the spa area is clean and also offers beautiful views. All of this for quite an amazing price. I had very little expectation going in, but I was truly impressed! The only major downside was the air conditioning, despite setting it lower and lower (from 21°C down to 11°C), the room temperature stubbornly stayed at 25°C, which made it difficult to sleep."

"Only thing we regret is that we only started one night here as we on the way from Portugal to Spain! We couldn’t say enough about this historical hotel and can’t wait to expect one day we return for the longer stay. The free breakfast was served on an ancient stone table, hotel also served a wonderful dinner, it was delicious! Entire place was like a giant storyteller, the ancients buildings and its exhibitions brought you back a thousand years. A beautiful garden and courtyard with partially existing cloister ….. the hotel location also very close to the Portuguese only national park, Peneda-Gerês National Park, not far from Braga. Ideal location between Portugal and Spain! "

"We stayed in the suites, which were huge. I think there’s only one on each floor. It was a lot of volume to cool, but the Air conditioning was able to work really well in one of our two rooms and it worked OK in the other. Considering that we were sleeping 4 people in each room, he should’ve had a better sofa bed. The slots were so bent and broken, and the mattress is only like 2 inches thick. My teenage son did not get a good nights sleep because of this. They were nice enough to bring a second 2 inch mattress making it thicker but it was still sagging. Considering these were suites of the hotel, they should have the nicest mattresses for the sofa bed. Then one of my other teenage son slept in the second night and his back and shoulder were sore for days. Property itself is beautiful with the swimming pool and the incredible views. The staff was nice. I think they just need to address the sofa bed issue. Sleep is usually the number one priority for travelers."
