Such a perfect getaway. We felt private and secluded surrounded by bush, views, and animals, but close to everything with a short drive to the vineyards etc.
The cottage is incredible it was like living in a fairytale especially with the donkeys and horse that come to visit you while you have your morning coffee!
Perfect place to spend time with friends relaxing and recharging. The spa was great and the rest of the Rock House was gorgeous. No communication with the property manager was great and the extra little welcoming touches made it really special.
This amazing holiday plans started off 5months ago .. unfortunately Covid had our plans on hold, however Eloise was absolutely amazing with her communication and warmth ❤ !!!! Everything from the start of this getaway to our well Planned engagement 💍 was phenomenal! Highly recommended 👌 absolutely beautiful retreat was just what we needed ❤
Great rustic accommodation, clean and well serviced. Great location, quiet bush setting with wonderful views around the whole resort. Really enjoyed our break - Eloise was great at making us feel welcome and providing information to us , to make the most of the amenities. My two lads loved getting down to the river,, to fish and paddle board, as the river was calm and safe to swim in. Welcomed each morning by Smokey the horse which the lads loverd and also great to be able to use the on resort pool for a quick dip to cool off.. Highly recommend if you want a quiet, relaxing, away from the world experience.
This place. Don’t look at others. Just book this place.
The aesthetic, tranquility, cute visitors (like Smokey the horse), the rain on the time roof, the beautiful rock formations in the cottage, awesome spa, little touches like the bubbling and sweets grazing box. Honestly, it was such a needed break away from life that we needed.
The check in was professional & communication from Eloise was perfect.
Thank you for a wonderful stay!
The property is everything for a weekend away! It’s a very romantic setting but at the same time great for kids. Not far from the wineries but away from the hustle of the hunter. We loved it
From the location to the cosy stone cottage, to the cute visits from Smokey (the horse) we had the best time. We felt like we had the whole property and land to ourselves yet we were so close to town and the Hunter Valley cafes ect. Clean fresh sheets and a comfy bed made for a great nights sleep, we loved the fire and the spa. Thanks for having us guys, we will be back!
It was beautiful revisiting this beautiful property after 13 years.
My husband and I had the most relaxing little getaway.
It was so nice to share our memories of our first visit with our children from out first visit.
Eloise was so friendly and accommodating.
We highly rate this property.
Thank you so much.

My partner and I spent a long weekend at Hunter River Retreat for my 30th birthday. It was perfect. Smooth self check-in, complimentary wine and sweets, private well equipped cabin, country vista, amazing sunsets, comfy bed and a hot tub! The highlight of our stay was a very cheeky horse named Smokey, who freely roams the property. He stole our hearts! I can’t recommend this place enough!
The cottage was very snug and welcoming, loved the stone effect.
Well stocked with kitchen appliances which was great!
The animals were a highlight!
Great all round experience for couples or families.
Wonderful and quiet little place to get away to , will definitely return !
Everything was just so simple and straightforward with booking and confirmations etc . The place itself was exactly what we were looking for and we definitely plan to return again . Could not fault a thing , we can't say enough about how great we thought this quiet little place was . Nothing was over the top, it was all just simple and comfortable and very relaxing.

Cosy retreat
We enjoyed our stay in the rockhouse. A beautiful spot to spend a peaceful weekend. There are, however, a few things the listing doesn't mention. While there are two bedrooms, they are not fully enclosed. Rather they are part of a loft area, and instead of walls and a door there is a small partition (roughly 6ft high) and a curtain. So if you're going with another couple, make sure you know them well!
The other thing I should mention is that it isn't so much a fireplace as a wood heater. It's great at warming the house but it's positioned in a way that you can't really sit around it or in front of it.
But despite this, we did enjoy our stay and would recommend it to others. The kitchen is well stocked and the deck is perfect for a lazy game of scrabble in the afternoon.
