We had such a nice stay on Nolin Lake. The house is set up ideally for lake life. We used the sun porch/dining room multiple times a day, and the huge sectional couch in the living room was so comfy. The kids loved the bunkroom - they both got a top bunk! The kitchen is really nice, with most utensils and cookware that you could think of. The wraparound porch all the way around the house was fun, and we sat outside quite a bit. We grilled several times, but it was unusually warm (85 degrees in April) and we were worn out every day from hiking, so we didn't get a chance to use the fire pit or fireplace.
The stargazing was great, with no light pollution. The yard is heavily sloped down to lake, and there are a lot of stairs, but the water is right there! We fished off the dock, and my son caught a good-sized large mouth bass. We saw a ton of wildlife just right there in the yard - deer, geese, bats, owls, butterflies, wasps, turkeys - we loved it. Having access to nature, but staying in a nice house is the perfect balance for me.
You're only 20 minutes from Mammoth Cave visitor center if you take the Green River Ferry route. The town of Cave City is about 30 minutes away (and the closest place to get beer!). You're also only a few minutes away from some great hiking and the beach at Nolin Lake State Park. Great location, and the green rolling hills are so beautiful.
We stayed at the house for three nights, and I wish we had more time. It was so relaxing, and just precious time with family. The host was very responsive, made sure we were taken care of, but was also unobtrusive, which is ideal. I'd love to stay here again sometime!
