About this property
Enjoy Central District Colonial House 'La Gran Sultana' + pool
Welcome to "La Gran Sultana", a colonial house rebuilt in 2002 with a patio garden and a pool. It can host up to 12 people in 4 rooms (there is an extra room with a queen bed w/o aircon). The house is located 2 blocks from Main Square. In 2025, we have made important improvement with new furnitures: mirror, beds, TV set and Kitchen equipment; improved design in the rooms and the patio +1 piece stunning wooden table to eat. See the pictures!
Casa La Gran Sultana is definitely “GRAND”. From the street, whenever you open one of the 2 antique double door, you get first to a huge “saguan” with a first set of rocking chairs. This room is used to receive people from outside or take the fresh air coming from the lake at sunset. Once the door is closed, the noise from the street recedes and you get into a wide 3 fold corridor around the garden. Note: one of the 2 doors to the street provides a confortable access & Parking for a 4x4 or van + a car. The main corridor which brings you to the center of the house is equipped with additional seating facing the pool and hammocks between the exotic wooden pilars. The garden is full of tropical plants and a magnificent mango tree provides a good shadow. At 6am in the morning, whenever the city awakes and the sun appears this is the place to be, as the birds (including humming birds) are flying over to drink. The left side corridor is equipped with the internet and TV set, the right one hosts the main diner table. The kitchen is located at the center of the home between the two outer gardens. It is spacious and has everything you need to prepare a meal or just a simple snack. A room is located on the main floor with an exit on the patio. A bathroom is on the back of the room. A dormitory bedroom is located in the back garden area with 3 to 4 beds. Upstairs on the balcony the view is spectacular on the roofs of the surrounding houses. The two large bedrooms open onto the patio. The master bedroom has a private bath, king bed and large closet. The second upstairs room has a private bath, one full bed and a twin bed. The antique wood staircase and wood floors are not only beautiful but will take you back in time when things were a bit simpler. 4 bedrooms have aircon. Important: There is a water tank at the back of the house to ensure a smooth in-house water-supply.

This home was absolutely wonderful! It was centrally located and had all the amenities we could ask for. Great kitchen to cook our meals in with a family, the pool was a perfect place to cool off and have have a drink The bedrooms were clean and very comfortable. The house keeper was and angel and the house manager was externally helpful kind and caring and went above and beyond. We are already planing our trip back for next year.
Except for the pool not being available, our short stay was very pleasant!

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in
The owner was very intense. She first asked us the day before if she could just make up 2 of the 5 rooms for our 5 people. I politely declined and stated that we needed at least 3 rooms. Then she wanted us to show up at 2pm because she had other things to do. We were unable to arrive until at least 3pm that day but she wanted to be there. We got the check in instructions the day before where she informed us that we have to pay extra for electricity. She gives the first 20 kilowatts per day but then you pay extra if you go over. We only used 3 rooms with AC only at night and the pool for less than an hour and we still had to pay. She also wanted us to wake up and let in the house cleaners and pool cleaners each morning. If we couldn’t we didn’t get service. Finally she wanted to meet us at 10 am to personally check out even though check out is at 11. She had my husband up on a stool checking the electrical meter to see how much we owed. The house itself was nice and similar to the colonial style. It was an okay experience overall.
I love Granada and have been many times. The location was great. But communication problems with the owner, and other issues ruined it. I booked a home that slept 15 for 6 people, and there was charged a chunk of cash for extra guest. When I objected before reserving it, the lady said it was beyond her control and would return half of it when I got there. She refused to do so, and kept it. She sent me a number to contact the house manager, but it was blocked by the web site and she didnt respond when I asked he to get me a number. The water was shut off one day, and it took several hours to get it back on with no communication. They have a chair that was broken in the past. When we moved it, the arm came off and they wanted to keep part of my deposit to pay for the damages. It felt like a set up. I wonder how many guests paid for the same damage. I will travel to Granada again and rent from VRBO. But NEVER form this owner again. Avoid.

We missed seeing Nicaragua, but the owner of the property is great!
We were unable to visit Nicaragua with our family this summer due to the civil unrest. However, we are so grateful for this property owner. They were extremely helpful and honest with us about the situation in their country. We cannot wait to visit this wonderful country, and we will definitely rent from this property owner again. Thank you for your amazing kindness and honesty. We hope to rent from you again soon!

Great location
We were a family of 10 (ages 10 - 75) staying at Casa Grand Sultana for 4 days. It was spacious and accomodated our large group easily. Great location - a short walk from the central square, restaurants etc. A lovely property in a beautiful town.

great vacation property
My husband and I rented the casa with three other friends, but sadly, we had to leave three weeks after arriving due to a medical issue. Our friends remained. We were very impressed with the property and enjoyed the amenities, especially the pool on every hot, humid day. The casa was spacious and relaxing with plenty of room for privacy. We ate most meals in so the kitchen facilities were adequate. A BBQ outside would have been a real bonus. We got to know the family of the owner and they went above and beyond in helping us to make travel arrangements, get bottled water and ultimately, helping us during a stressful period of hospitalization. They offered a great deal of valued advice and even drove us to the hospital on two occasions then visited my husband later in the Managua hospital. We would recommend this property for anyone wishing to visit Granada. The location was great for walking around and seeing the town.

I couldn't ask for a better location or property for my group of 13. The house is centrally located between the Mercado principal and the more upscale shopping center "La Colonia". Everything is within a few short blocks. The property is well maintained and has ample room for larger groups. I never felt cramped despite having 11 teens with me. The master suite is spacious and private giving me a place to myself. I am already looking forward to my next visit.

Home away from home
I have traveled to Granada, Nicaragua every summer for the last four years and have rented a variety of properties for my group of 13. This past summer I finally found the perfect location for my group of teens. I spent 4 weeks at the Casa la Gran Sultana and I felt like I was home. The house is perfectly located on a quiet side street yet everything is within a few blocks walking distance, the Central Market or the more upscale grocery store, the main square, the tourist street, the lake and many other attractions. The house is spacious with plenty of room for our group to gather together for meetings and activities or to find solitude from each other. I would recommend this house for large groups looking for a safe, comfortable and convenient location. La Casa la Gran Sultana will be my "home away from home" when I travel to Granada.

A very nice come back in Granada in this house
We are from France, we lived in Nicaragua 15 years ago for 2 years and keep a very special link with this incredible Nicaragua and moreover the city of Granada! We come back to meet our friends after 5 years: Granada is just the same place as we first met and La Gran Sultana is the perfect place to do that:
- it is right in the center, no need to take your car to have diner outside or to go to main square just to have a delicious juice and look around
- the house is well isolated from the noise of the city and you dont feel in the center. There is not much cars passing in the street, there is a small hotel just in front so it is well secured 24h a day.
- the house is huge, a lot of space on top of your head and in front of you: 2 patios, beautiful tropical trees and plants around the pool, even if the space isopen, you can have a true rest independantly from what the other relatives are doing.
Well, we felt at home @ "La Gran Sultana", so no doubt we will come back!

Charming Casa in the heart of Granada
My husband and I were with two other couples for a week in Granada. The six of us stayed in this beautiful, spacious and meticulously maintained house. Bhelia, the property manager, was so friendly and helpful, even though we didn't speak Spanish, she was able to communicate with us. We were able to walk every where we wanted to go and enjoyed the pool after a day of sightseeing. We were also fortunate to be there while the mangos ripened and had a fresh harvest of sweet, juicy mangos everyday. I would highly recommend this property.

Relaxing Colonial Home in Good Location In Granada
Outdoor living and dining is so relaxing and pleasant. A wrap-around veranda provides sitting areas and a table to enjoy an open air breakfast while listening to the birds. When the weather is hot, I went for a quick dip in the dipping pool. I felt refreshed. The home is within walking distance to the principal plaza or Central Park where there is a lot of colorful local culture selling food and wares across from the cathedral. Many restaurants and shops are nearby as well. We enjoyed our stay very much and I would return to the same casa on my next visit.

A wonderful oasis in a beautiful city
My family and I spent a week during Christmas in Granada and we loved every minute of it. There were 10 of us that stayed in the house and we had more then enough room. We have 3 children with us and they loved the pool and it was so easy for us to be in the pool with them or siiting on a rocker, in a hammock or at the dining table to watch them play in the pool. The location is perfect, so close to the center square but on a quiet street with great neighbors. Laurent was easy to work with and the house manager was fantastic. She set-up side trips to Masaya, the Appoyo Lagoon, Catarina, a wildlife reserve, etc.. with a private driver. I highly recommend not only this house, but Granada and Nicaragua as well.

Great location, spacious house
We have rented this house several times and most recently for the entire summer. The house is well kept and spacious. The location is great, just a couple blocks from central park and walking distance from any place you want to go in Granada. The recently added pool is a nice addition. The house is very clean and well kept, with daily maid service. Its a great option for larger groups. The master bedroom has A/C which is very nice to have during especially hot weather.

Just as advertised
We stayed at the house for a week in January 2012. Everything was just like the website. The pool was small but lovely especially with the sound of the fountain running into the pool. We arranged to have Marta come in and cook breakfast which was great. I would definately recommend staying here.

Great first time experience in Nicaragua
Great way to experience the country, we spent nine days here. It is in a central location for day trips. Walking to restaurants, shops and museums in Granada are all just minutes from the square. The house was a cool, quiet retreat in the heart of the city. It is a lovingly restored Spanish Colonial with great attention to detail. The photos don't really do it justice. Wifi was handy for booking tours and using the Internet. Bhelia, the property manager, was so friendly and helpful, even though we didn't speak Spanish, she was able to communicate with us. Mercedes kept the place spotless with her daily cleaning. Be prepared, there is no hot water and the water pressure in the shower is quite low. However, it really wasn't an issue since the cool shower at bedtime felt great! While you're here try Imagine restaurant for truly gourmet meals, and The Garden Cafe for great breakfasts and light lunches. The house was so spacious and comfortable, you will feel right at home. We found a rental car wasn't necessary; hiring a driver or taking taxis was more practical and reasonable.

Highly reccomended
We stayed here between Christmas and New Years 2010 and really had a nice time. The place is impressive; its large and has interesting architecture. It looks just like the pictures. You can spread out as much as you want in this place. If anything, it was more room than we ever even needed. You can walk to anywhere you need to go in Granada. Granada is also very close to a lot of great day trips also. Take it.

Our stay
Our vacation in Granada was wonderful, we found your house cozy and accomadating and nearby everything we needed.
Belia did her best in every aspect as well as her sister; who just so happens to have lived right next door to us.
I will definitely recommend your house to my friends and relatives.
Thanks,
