We were in the area to help celebrate a 65th birthday. John's property was ideal for a family get together and barbecue. He even let us pick some of their blackberries for our morning breakfasts!Communication with John, cleanliness of the property and access to Whonnock Lake on the hottest day of the year were all ideal. Don't hesitate to book!
Property was wonderful; quiet and peaceful. The house was perfect and met all of our needs. The Hosts were the best… this is truly a mountain retreat worth returning to in the future.
We recently had a stay at the Mountain Retreat. The rental was clean, well appointed with every amenity you would need at home, including soft, high quality bedding, a cozy fireplace and a kitchen with all the tools for a proper meal. Will be recommending to family and friends. 5 stars all round!
Very peaceful location, beds are super comfortable. We ended up sleeping way more than we do at home. Definitely recommended

Awesome country house with very attentive hosts! My family of 6 enjoyed our stay outside the hustle of the city, giving us time to recharge between trips to Vancouver, Whistler and Washington. Host was responsive and left some nice arrival gifts. The pets on the property were a bonus for my kids. Great stay!
My bridesmaids and myself stayed here for 2 days for my wedding in September. The hosts were so accommodating and very communicative. John was very sweet and brought us another mirror for us to all get ready the day of. The property is beautiful and quiet and the beds were super comfy too! I will be suggesting to others to stay here if they’re in the area!!
We had a very nice Easter Long Weekend here. We used this place as a base while we visited family in Mission and the surrounding area. The yard and location were great for our boys who thoroughly enjoyed the basketball and tennis court. The unit itself was clean and very well laid out. John made sure we had everything we needed. We would definitely recommend this place and will absolutely return if in the area again.Great stay!
The property was perfect for a wedding at Whonnock lake center. John was very friendly and inviting. And so was the dog Bailey. 10/10 would rent again !
We loved using the tennis court, petting the big husky and being surrounded by nature. Unfortunately, the dishwasher was not usable and the water was not potable, but the beds were comfortable and it had everything else we needed. The host was very helpful and responsive. Would stay again!
This was the second time we booked the cottage, we like it that much. If you want a quiet location that's near lots of parks and lakes this will be ideal for you. The cottage is kept immaculately and the host is attentive to your specific needs. We have booked again for next summer. I hope Bailey the husky will be there to greet us next year!
With the lake and trails conveniently nearby, having access to a car will allow you to fully enjoy the complete Maple Ridge experience. For city dwellers, this provides a refreshing change from the typical urban routine. The host family was fantastic and always willing to lend a hand if necessary.
This stay is quality with a good serving of quiet in a country setting.
Pictures are accurate. Location is quiet and relaxing. Owner is responsive. The unit was very clean and is better stocked than most VRBOs.
The highlight for us were the dogs on property, they are the best. We also brought our dog and everyone had a good time.
From the first contact with John he made us feel right at home.
Place was great, bed comfortable and lots of room.
John provided fans for us as the weather was a bit warm.
Loved all the dogs and little and big kitty. ❤️
We stayed here for 2 nights while attending a wedding near by. The photos don’t do this place justice, it’s quite spacious and well laid out. The decor style, even the dishes were well designed. A couple highlights of this place were the king size beds (incredibly comfortable), the land surrounding the home (which is fully gated in, which made things easy for walking my dog each morning), the pickle ball and tennis court, as well as how friendly the host is (anything we needed last minute he was available to help). We would definitely stay here again, as we also have family in the area, this location makes it quite convenient for us to attend future family gatherings. I would definitely recommend this as a great getaway location to relax and enjoy the countryside. One last thing, there’s an amazing lake near by (3 min drive) that is so warm, clean and picturesque, plus many other activities to take advantage of.
We stayed at this property for 5 nights over August Long weekend and we were very comfortable!
The house is much bigger than I was expecting it to be! The beds in the two bedrooms really are very comfortable! Even the bonus room upstairs is quite large. The kitchen is fully equipped but come prepared to hand wash your dishes. Not a big deal at all for us. The location was great! Easy access to everything we needed. The owners and their dogs are all very friendly! We brought our dog and the owners were great about coordinating use of the yard with us for the dogs.We had a lot of privacy and the owners were very accommodating! Would stay there again in the future! It was perfect for what we needed as we were attending a 4 day family reunion down the road.
We stayed at this beautiful location with our family (2 adults, 2 big teenagers and 2 tweens) and had the best time! The property is nestled just outside of Maple Ridge in a quiet and beautiful area surrounded by forest and steps away from great hiking. The hosts know the area well and have awesome insider tips on day trips and outings in the area.
The property itself is clean, beautiful and welcoming with tons to do right out your front door. Private tennis court also has basketball, pickleball and hockey or you can’t play in the open green space (the kids lived outside and had so much fun). The beds are insanely comfortable and we were very comfortable and slept better than we do at home!
The dogs are just the icing on the cake. My kids are still talking about Bailey and apparently we need a big, fluffy husky now.
Looking forward to booking again!
Really enjoyed our time at this location. Loved the hosts four legged family members and enjoyed being able to use the tennis courts when we were based at home. Nice to be greeted by a lovely bottle of red and some sweet treats and some cold water chilling in the fridge. Close to all amenities but loved being in an rural environment.
Another mirror (perhaps in a bedroom) would have been good to allow us all to get ready given that there’s only 1 bathroom. Window covering on the glass door in the 2nd bedroom would offer more privacy. Overall a great experience, my only other comment would be that I would have liked to open the windows etc overnight but would have needed screens
