The town itself has around 20,000 inhabitants and is an up-and-coming town with a beautiful pedestrianised zone and excellent shopping facilities. The town has an indoor swimming pool and a lovingly designed outdoor pool in the former state garden show grounds. The neighbouring Fichtelgebirge mountains have chair lifts, a summer toboggan run on the Ochsenkopf, hiking opportunities to the individual accommodation huts and climbing opportunities. We are particularly proud of the romantic rock labyrinth with its gigantic dimensions, in which you can hike and climb. At the foot of the labyrinth is Germany's most beautiful and best-known open-air theatre, where the "Luisenburg Festival" takes place every year. Other excursion destinations that are highly recommended: Bayreuth (Hermitage, Festival Theatre), Waldsassen Basilica and the Czech spa triangle of Karlovy Vary, Mariánské Lázně and Františkovy Lázně.
The nearby town forest with many hiking opportunities is just 300 metres away. The "Forsthaus" restaurant with its hearty food and cosy atmosphere invites you to take a break. Like everything else in the area, it offers unrivalled value for money. From the house you can go on extended hikes, e.g. to the local mountain "Kösseine", which offers catering and accommodation. A bird of prey park with daily eagle demonstrations is approx. 6 km away. In the neighbouring Fichtelgebirge you also have the opportunity to hike mountains at altitudes between 900 and 1050 metres. There are also several lake and rock formations in the Fichtelgebirge, e.g. the gigantic "rock labyrinth".
