This is my new favourite place to stay. It is so cute and clean. The owners are quick to respond to all communication. We’ve stayed her twice while passing through but I would definitely like to come and spend a few days here.

The owners of the property were very responsive and always answered the phone when they were called. They took care of anything that you asked. The rooms are somewhat dated, but there was someone on the premises working on at least one of the rooms. The rooms could be updated, but the rooms worked for the purpose we were there for.

We are in our 4th season as owners and continue to make updates each year such as new beds and mattresses in addition to alot of the furniture. Comfort and cleanliness is of utmost importance, we are glad you had a good stay and hope you have an opportunity to return.

THE CABIN WE STAYED IN WAS AWSOME. BOTH MY WIFE AND MYSELF THOUGHT IT MAYBE TOO HOT TO SLEEP AS IT WAS IN THE LOW 90S DURING THE DAY BUT TO OUR SURPRISE WITH THE FAN THAT THEY SUPPLY AND WE HAD OUR OWN FAN FOR THE BEDROOM IT WAS VERY COMFORTABLE. WE ARE DEFINTLY COMING BACK.THE HITCHING POST HAS VERY GOOD FOOD AND GREAT STAFF.

We liked the price. Period. We stayed there at the height of summer. Read the fine print - or, more to the point, make note of what's not there to read - there is no A/C - just a large, industrial, crazy loud fan. We were dying. And the windows (besides bathroom, which cracks open a bit) don't even open so you can't get any air flowing. I was hot and tired, so I thought I'd run a bath in their miniature tub. The water was yellow. All fixtures are old. Many appliances don't plug in because there are so few places to plug in, but there are extension cords, etc., that have been electical taped-together. The whole place is a fire hazard. There was one set of USB ports that only drained our devices' batteries so we went on searches for places to plug in our charging blocks and took turns charging. The beds are so incredibly small you better really like the person you're sleeping with. Not much else to say - if you are, indeed, a sporstman and only come in late in the evening, take a quick shower, and get up and out of there by daybreak, you'll be fine. If you're on your way somewhere and this is a midway stopping point where you want to relax before the next leg of your trip, this is not the place for you. It certainly wasn't for us.

Hi Kari, We're sorry you did not have a pleasant stay. I see that you stayed twice within the same week - thank you for returning! - and yes, both were during the few weeks of the year that get quite warm. Fortunately, it is always pleasantly cool at night. We do provide industrial fans that have multiple settings that help with airflow in addition to the screen doors that we installed last year. Although we are in our 3rd season as owners, the Sportsman has been around since 1950 so there is alot of original character to our establishment. We have been making upgrades each year including brand new mattresses - but yes our beds are standard full size unless you upgrade to a cabin which have queen beds. We appreciate your feedback and wish you the best.

I don't get the high ratings. Was cute, log-cabin style, might work as a stop-over if headed hunting/camping, used to cabins or tents, but as a hotel during a road-trip, this was a rough stay for us. Hottest summer in decades, our room had only a tiny bathroom window and a tiny front door window that was broken and would not move to open more screen. Main window was single-pane glass and did not open. Had a moveable fan in-room, yes, but no swamp cooler or a/c and no way to create airflow. Room was hot all night, 90 no airflow. Other guests had doors open, visible in their underwear also trying to cool down. Ashtrays right by rooms; rooms were non-smoking, but property was not. Sure, the room was clean, but not all the furniture was in good repair. The beds my nephew and his mom slept in were rickety, mattresses dipped, the "suite" my extended family rented was tiny, less than a foot space around the main bed, had to turn sideways to move around. For check-in, got a text message with automated code, no phone # for issues, didn't see any staff on-site, my follow up text asked me to leave a "positive review" online. I wish the owners well, but this property needs some attention. It was not a pleasant stay for us at all, we didn't get much sleep in the hot room, neighbors smoking right by our open windows, no way to cool the room at all, in a run-down bed with my feet sticking off by maybe 6 inches, even though I am only 6'2" tall. Was a pretty bad experience.

We house thousands of guests annually - including very many who return yearly - and this is the very first time we received such negative feedback about our accommodations. We are in our third season as owners and have made many updates since taking over. In addition, we own the restaurant next door and when providing support there and not in the office, I always leave my cell phone number on the door - I'm sorry you missed that. We would always want an opportunity to address issues and concerns first hand and in a timely manner. We wish you the very best.

This little cabin is the perfect getaway. It looks rustic, but is clean and has all the amenities. There's a bar and restaurant you can walk to, a river as well, and after dinner, you can sit on the porch and watch the sun set over the mountains.

There was no air so we were really hot. We could not open the windows because there were still storm windows on. We could not open both doors because of gaps around doors and fear of mosquitos. Still there were lots of mosquitoes that got in so that we were bitten. There was only one fan to be had for the multiple bedrooms. The house was not stocked with toilet paper but thankfully the owners brought some over. The lighting is poor in the house. The lamp shades still had plastic on them. The coffee pot had mold in it. We were extremely disappointed because this was not the Sportsman Motel we were led to believe we were renting from the pictures.

Hi Mary, we are very sorry your stay did not meet expectations. You booked the three bedroom country house - which is one of our only managed properties that does not sit in Melrose but sits in Divide. Although this is also the only property that we do not personally take care of, this is the first we have ever received negative feedback about the home not being well maintained - as I do frequently ask guests about their experience. We have already passed your feedback onto the owners. Also, as all of our lodging is very close to the beautiful Big Hole River, we do tend to get more mosquitos during the warmer weather days. We hope you have an opportunity to visit again and would love to host you at the Sportsman Lodge main location in Melrose.

Beautiful valley. Well maintained buildings and grounds. Easy checkin. First night was quiet 2nd night had to knook on neighbor's door and tell them people were trying to sleep. No a/c and the temperature necessitated leaving door and the onw window that opened open at night. Restaurant within walking distance. Fishing close by.

I am not sure how to review this stay. My booking showed a family cabin with 5 double beds. I was booking for my family: two adults, 4 kids. It was just a one night stay on our way up to Glacier NP. However, on our way, I received a text confirming our stay, but the address was not the Sportsman Motel address. Instead, we were directed to a house that was about 12 miles away from the Sportsman Motel. The house was fine - on the older side. We nicknamed it "Grandma's house".... due the decor you would know what we mean. It was clean and served its purpose. However, it was not at all what we thought we were booking. I was looking forward to staying at the motel property for the outdoor activities for the kids. When I called the property, she said that sometimes happens using a 3rd party booking and there was no space for what I needed for the family that night. She was very nice and even treated us to dinner at the property. We visited and wished we were staying there. I guess the moral of my story is double-check with a call first if you are anticipating staying at the property. However, Grandma's House worked ok too.... it has served as a fun story during our vacation travel.

Everything about our stay here was great. Just one thing... the hotel is pet friendly which is great how ever our room smelled horribly of urine. We were able to air it out a bit The area of Montana that is hotel is in is really beautiful and the amenities of the hotel are perfect for a real Montana experience. I wish we would have planned more time to stay and enjoy the fire pit or BBQ at the cook out area. The bar/cafe that is walking distance to the hotel has great food and a friendly staff.

Hi Stanley, I'm sorry that you experienced a room that smelled. We take uptmost care in cleaning our rooms and if there are accidents on the carpet - in addition to always have cleaner on hand in our rooms since they are pet friendly, we professionally clean the carpets. We also regularly professionally clean our carpets. We certainly would want our guests to alert us ASAP of issues so we have an opportunity to rectify. I personally inspect the rooms and had not noticed such smells after my staff had cleaned however sometimes when sitting during the day with the rain we have been receiving and warmer weather, a smell could have developed that I missed. I certainly would not put a guest in a room that had urine in the carpets. I greatly apologize for your experience and hope that you will give the Sportsman another chance. Thank you.

Very cool place and very friendly. My only gripe is that we noticed alot of dog hair located on the bed, pillows and blankets. Yes, I like dogs but not on the furniture and where I sleep.

A wonderful quiet place to stay! Very clean and the people were helpful and friendly. The down side was no air conditioning so it was hot and stuffy but there was a fan provided in the room.

A great place to unplug
We stayed in one of the off-property cabins that was privately owned, so I’m not able to give an accurate review of the lodge itself other than the staff was very accommodating and helpful. The cabin we stayed in was clean and the owner came over to greet us. She’s so nice! The biggest complaint was a bit of an anomaly in that we were there during an abnormal heatwave and the cabin doesn’t have air conditioning or the best air flow. The owner generously let us borrow a fan which helped! I’d love to visit again. It was a beautiful place

Place is adorable and lovingly maintained. There are cornhole boards and a place for a bonfire, and there is a restaurant right next door which is great. Cabin was well-equipped and very comfortable, we enjoyed our stay! The owners are such gracious hosts.

Everything was surprisingly wonderful. Seems the water heater is not sufficient. My 1st kid had a hot shower at night had to wait 30 min between kids and the other 2 only had warm shower. My husband and i showered early morning and his was hot, i waited 30 min and i had a very fast and very cold shower.

We spent just a few hours sleeping here. Arrived late and left early. Large room and was a great place to stay for my family of 5. Older place that felt clean and well taken care of. I'd definitely stay again if ever in the area. Bathrooms could use a remodel, but it worked for what we needed.
