Handicap Accessible cottage at Desoto Falls Mentone, AL Central Time Zone

Canyon Falls Cottage is on a canyon estate with overlooks of Desoto Falls. The cottage is NOT on the rim of the basin below the falls, but the falls are visible from the second floor bedroom. The canyon estate is three miles from the Lookout Mountain village of Mentone Alabama.
At this rural estate you will be surrounded by 80 year old Mountain Laurel and Rhododendrons. The Desoto State Park above the falls on Little River is a very short three to four minute walk. The park trails are nearby. The Little River Canyon National Park Reserve and Visitor Center is a twenty minute drive.
This cottage is HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE with one handicap parking and one traditional parking space, a ramp to the screened porch, wheelchair accessible kitchen, and bathroom with handicap transfer shower, toilet and lavatory.
There are two bedrooms on separate floors with private baths. Amenities include a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, washer and dryer, cathedral ceiling great room with gas vented log stove, large screen TV, WiFi. There is no outdoor grill due to the bear population.
This rental has been created with a sense of flare and elegance for the discerning vacationer on this quiet and secluded estate above Alabama’s highest waterfall where Appalachia begins.
The adjacent rental is “Cliff House” (VRBO.com/1213591) standing on the canyon rim overlooking Desoto Falls, and the falls are visible from every room of this rental. Wonderful location! The cottage is lovely, spacious, clean, well-stocked, peaceful and cozy. Loved all the details like the stained glass window, art, and flowers. Our favorite thing was the proximity to the waterfall. Great location for hiking and enjoying God’s beautiful creation.

Fantastic Stay

Balbha was amazing and was there to greet us as we arrived. The location was great and just a short walk to the falls. It was a relaxing and wonderfully laid out cabin. We enjoyed ourselves very much!

Perfect, peaceful getaway

My in-laws and aunt/uncle stayed at this property, and we stayed at the main house. The home was clean, updated, accommodating, beautiful, and the perfect place for their stay. Would definitely recommend!

Lovers retreat

It made Valentine’s weekend memorable, and having a beautiful woman was just an addition that was over the top. Everything was perfect, I’m planning to go back, but this time rent both properties for the entire family to experience the beauty of the waterfalls. The history of the property is enriched with just what an individual falls in love with.

Perfect for our needs

This cabin was great - just the right size for two couples to spend a weekend in Mentone. The woods made it feel nice and secluded, and we were just a few minutes away from the trailhead to hike down to see DeSoto Falls. If we go back to Mentone, we'll definitely stay here again!

Peaceful Retreat

Beautiful cabin in beautiful setting

Overall it was beyond our expectations. Our kids loved it, we loved it and we will definitely come back during summer for a change. This place is a must see for everyone that loves secluded places and amazing nature and views.

Best relax cabin in alabama

The property puts you in state of relaxation the min you turn in the driveway. I mean from the sound of the waterfall to the birds chirping and the the clean fresh air. The host and the cabin has a home feeling that takes all the stress away.

Perfect relaxation

Our stay was wonderful! The cabin was charming, clean and very cozy. The property manager met us and “showed us the ropes,” which was very helpful. The kitchen is well appointed and an abundance of household supplies were provided. Overall, a fantastic place.

Relaxing getaway

I stayed in this beautiful cottage with my cousin. We planned a last minute nature getaway and it was absolutely perfect. We got the kindest greeting from our sweet host, Balpha the moment we arrived with a lovely tour of the property. The cottage is beautiful with peaceful surroundings and you can hear the sounds of nature all around. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay. Thank you to the lovely hosts for your hospitality!

Great place to relax

We had two peaceful and relaxing days. Everything we needed was supplied. Of all the VRBO's it is one of the cleanest that we have ever been to. We always look forward to our time at The Canyon Falls or The Cliff House. I wish there was a way to give it more than 5 stars!

Relaxing stay

We had a very nice relaxing time. The screened in porch was amazing! The weather was perfect. The handicap ramp and other amenities were fantastic for my sister who has some disabilities. I highly recommend this cottage especially if you just want to kick back and relax. We are planning to go back. Next time I think we will take more groceries and prepare our meals there.

My daughter and I absolutely loved our stay at this cottage. The owner, Balpha, is a true gem! The cottage is gorgeous and oh so comfortable. Meeting Balpha and receiving his tour of the property and tips for Mentone was a highlight! These properties will be our go-to accommodations when we visit Mentone and DeSoto State Park and Falls in the future. A+++++

Very Enjoyable

I was very happy to find a place that would accommodate my elderly disabled Dad. The beds were nice and low to the floor and the walk in shower was easy for him to access. There was plenty of space for him to walk around with his rollator. The kitchen was ample. The reclining chairs in the living area were nice. Everything was great. The only thing that I can say negative is that I didnt find the little couch to be very comfortable, but other than that we had an amazing stay. The host wven made sure we had a charcoal grill to grill on since the gas grill wasnt working, he made sure we knew oflocal eateries to try and how to work the T.V. remote.

Located on gravel road in quiet wooded area just behind another VRBO on rim that overlooks waterfall. Host is helpful and nearby. Stocked with everything you will need. Nice screened in front porch. Mentone is quick car ride. Lots of hiking within one hour. Try Hatter Restaurant.

Serenity!

My daughter and two teen granddaughters stayed here. (We were in the adjacent Canyon Falls unit.) This unit is spotless, has comfortable beds and plenty of room for everyone. Everything you need for a wonderful stay is here. I had my morning coffee on the front porch which overlooks the quiet woodland that surrounds this piece of heaven. A million thanks to the owner that shares this wonderful property.

Mentone Getaway

We had seen this property online and absolutely loved the location. The handicap accessible layout of the entry and ground floor bedroom was an absolute plus for the comfort of my 85 year old mother! Balpha met us at the cottage upon arrival and gave us a complete tour of the house and pointed out all the features of the property. This home is warm and cozy and made for the perfect place for us to enjoy our family getaway. Balpha is an incredibly gracious host. This will probably be our go to home away from home when we visit Mentone again!

Amazing Property

This home was amazing. Extremely clean with lots of amenities. Everything we needed was there. Beautifully decorated. The owner checked us in and showed us around. You can tell he takes pride in this home and he was a joy to meet! Great communication. Great location! We had an amazing time relaxing and enjoying the scenery around the area! We hope to be back. Stunning Accessible Cabin!

The craftsmanship, love and design of this cabin welcomed us into our long weekend of R&R with our sons. We were greeted by our host, a personal touch I’ve missed since the days of COVID contact free check in. Getting to learn the story behind works of art and how to use different features was a nice start to our trip. I am an amputee and I walk by day, and must use a wheelchair user by night. Finding truly accessible lodging that meets both my needs and allows my sons to have a great trip, is incredibly difficult. I cannot that the owners enough for taking the time to go above & beyond to ensure the first floor, porch & entry are truly accessible for wheelchair users or individuals with reduced mobility. Lastly, you can easily walk from the cabin to the trail heads to go to the base of DeSoto Falls and swim, or go to the area above the falls that also had easier access to swimming.

Best cottage in the Mentone area!

This cottage is PERFECT! We have enjoyed staying in the main house for several years, but this was our first stay at the cottage. Although it shares ALL of the wonderful amenities of the other house, it has a unique and special personality of its own! The front porch with its gliding rockers has become one of my favorite spots to read and relax, and you can hear DeSoto Falls. It is also a great place to see and hear the many interesting birds in the area. I was quite excited by my first close look at a Pileated Woodpecker! The cottage itself is exquisitely decorated, and the hosts always leave the most beautiful fresh flowers for us! It is also handicap accessible which we did not need, but it will be perfect for some of our family members who would love to join us for a restful mountain vacation. There are not enough superlatives to describe the hosts, Balpha and Brue. It is their personal attention to detail that makes both the cottage and the main house the absolute Best of the Best!
