Overall, the stay itself was good, and I'd come back but the service left something to be desired.
I checked in late at night, so I understood that check-in was kept to the basics. That part was fine. What stood out more was the general feeling from the staff throughout my visit: it often felt like they didn't really want to be there, and not one of them ever introduced themselves by name, so I can't single anyone out good or bad.
I went up to the rooftop bar a couple of times at night, and getting a drink there was harder than it should have been, simply because there often wasn't a bartender around at all.
Happy hour on Monday was genuinely good the bartender (a guy)that night was super friendly and set a great tone. Tuesday night was a different story. The bartender (a girl) took a long time to come around, we managed to order one drink, and when we wanted another, we couldn't find her anywhere.
The moment that stuck with me most happened that Tuesday night. I accidentally broke a glass and went straight over to let her know. Before anything else, her immediate response was that I would have to pay for the glass which I did, no argument. Only about a minute later did she think to ask whether I was okay, and whether the area needed cleaning. I appreciated that she got there eventually, but the order of things said a lot: the charge came first, my wellbeing second.
None of this ruined the trip but the staff could have been a bit more friendly.
Everything was excellent about this hostel. It was my first time ever staying in a hostel, so I wasn't sure what to expect but the staff is friendly, the check in and check out policies are easy, the rooms are modern, there are many fun amenities including social events for guests to get to know the staff and one another, the facilities are clean, and the location is downtown Mexico City about a 30 minute walk away from major locations like the Museo de Bellas Artes, the square near the Presidental House, etc. Fares are cheap, so if you are thinking about Barrio Downtown, don't hesitate!
Felt completely safe and what you see in the pictures is exactly what you get. Very up to date. I liked that the storage for your items was within your space.
Enjoyed my stay, the hostel is clean and comfortable with good service, the guests are mixed age. The breakfast was ok with limited options. One improvement suggestion is organized hostel activities can be better with more variety of experiences.
The box beds are great, really secure. They also have lots of daily walking tours and activities. The main downside is you need the window open and the street is noisy. This didn’t bother me but if you need quiet, this wouldn’t be it. I loved my stay and would love to go back.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay as Hostel Barrio. First off the location is unbeatable. Perfect spot in the Historical Center but also easily accessible to other neighborhoods. Not to mention a small convenience store next door and pharmacy right across the street. The hostel itself is gorgeous with lots of fun decorations. Rooms are everything you need, facilities are always sparkling clean, staff are tremendously friendly. Icing on the cake is the terrace bar and then rooftop green area. If you are coming to CDMX stay here!!!!!
Hostal Barrio - I have stayed at for some time - it is very very very clean - very very very safe compared to all other hostels I have tried in CDMX - you will feel like you are at home - like your second home - BC the staff is very loving and kind and really care about their guests. Love Y'all !!!! My Best friends !!! And God Bless Hostal Barrio.
It was a great experience to stay at this hostel! Very clean and very well maintained. Although if you get a room with a window it will be a bit noisy outside since it’s downtown and it can get very very cold during the winter at night. I asked for extra 5 blankets 😅
Staff is very nice and there’s always security around. Will be back soon!
Very clean and nice facilities - but the social aspect of the hostel was really disappointing, and often times the tours and activities were cancelled because just 1 person wanted to go. Not much of a social environment and more like a hotel.
A really good and very clean hostel in downtown (Centro Historico) Mexico city. A well-organized personal cube that has a small wardrobe with 2 hangers (my carry-n suitcase fit there perfectly!), 2 USB sockets and one regular socket, 2 shelves for personal items and even a safe. A good mattress, pillow, and blanket. Nice big towel. The cube could be locked with a key. The room is also locked with a card.
The breakfasts were served on time and were really good (some fruits, chiliquiles, yogurt, granola, coffee, orange juice, toasts). Having a breakfast on the patio upstairs was really enjoyable.
The bathroom for men and women were separate, and the showers were nice and clean. Hot water, even had shampoo and shower gel there.
The bathrooms are also equipped with hair dryers.
There usually are parties and activies on a patio/roof every evening, so be prepared for noise. The hostel is also located on the main street, so it can be noisy during the day, too.
Their WhatsApp group is beyond anything.
Overall, I would stay again.
