Decent hotel with budget pricing. Rooms were good apart from some cosmetic issues. Lot of amenities onsite like convenience store, cafe, vending machine etc. Staff was helpful. If you are looking for budget stay in Newark area, this is a good option

Inspite of being in the hotel business for a long time, Howard Johnson still has a good cleanliness standard , welcoming front desk and staff and one of the lowest pricing. Aside from being so conveniently near the Newark Airport, it also has so much room for parking.

The room was fairly clean and bed comfortable. The property is dated. Could have used a deep clean to clear dust and stuff behind the night stands and in the corners. Staff was not very social. Our check in guy was helpful in telling us exactly how to get to our room. Check out guy was watching tv or something with ear buds in and barely acknowledged that I handed him the key as we checked out. Hotel is not in the best area, although we didn’t hear any airplanes or outdoor noise while in our room. Plenty of parking. Restaurant appeared to no longer be in business. No breakfast available and we didn’t see any restaurants or gas stations nearby. We did hear another customer complaining about thinking there may be blood in their room and the staff did quickly attend to that matter and offered the family another room.

smell of weed ,dog smell as you enter the hallway and drunk people in the hallway all night chattering ..lots of traffic in and out all night -worse as i was on the first floor. evening staff was excellent-no hassle. daytime staff gave me invoice with someone else's name. then he gave the correct invoice but info was incorrect-c/c and address did not use parking-i uber room clean but dated hallways torn dirty carpet

This hotel is a basic place to stay when your flight is cancelled. It's reasonably close to the airport and the bed was comfortable. The room was tired but acceptable. The one thing that impressed me is that the desk clerk actually knocked on my door when their wake-up call system didn't work. For that I was grateful. I had picked this hotel because it had a restaurant. Once there I found it wasn't open. I'm not certain if that was a short term or long-term issue. It wasn't open when I left at 7:30 a.m. 2 stars are appropriate, but the staff is do their best.

This Hotel is literally a place to lay your head to sleep. Rooms were spacious and bed was comfortable, although they us these half-size pillows versus a full-size pillow. Strange. Place had a unpleasant smell thruout, a combination of weed/smoke/body odor - its a No-Smoking Property, but something is happening here! Location is equally strange in a backlot off highway. Parking is extremely easy and rooms were clean. Its just...that smell.

First the hotel is clean and good value. Although a little dated, which in the case of Newark it still has that high crime feel that was very necessary 20-30 years ago. One warning if you are planning to take transit into NYC is that it looks very close to a bus stop, but it is not. The stop is on the other side of a 10 lane highway with no footpath across. For those that are brave you can walk along the shoulder of the overpass there and then cross a 4 lane road to get there. I consider this mistake to be on me, and don't want to fault the hotel for it. An easier option is to take the hotel/parking shuttle to the airport and then there is decent transit from there. Or you can drive across the overpass and pay to park at the airport for the day.
